PhantomBigStu
Hmm, there been an airfix f18 languishing in my local shop for the last few years, always avoided it because it’s an older kit and well overpriced, maybe I should save it and build it for this at some point, then again for the price I can get a nice shiny hasegawa or academy one.... Chewbacca
Is it too late to join? Only swapped over to this forum 10 days or so ago after 10 years with the Airfix Tribute Forum and only just spotted this GB. Being an ex-WAFU (albeit on FF/DD rather than flat tops, though I was the first OOW1 of ARK ROYAL when she came out of build in 1984) this is right up my street. I started the Trumpeter Seahawk on 7th Apr while on holiday in Wales and did the cockpit while I was away - so in terms of parts significantly less than 25% but in terms of effort probably quite close - but then I did start it after the GB started even if I didn't report on it! Not being too familiar with the process of BM GBs, if approved to join do I just start a build thread or is one created for me as in the ATF? Thanks

Thanks no problems at all, start up a thread and join the fun...... and craziness (sometimes) of a Britmodeller GB. So just go the the main page of the GB and select "Start new topic", it's as simple as that. If you have any problems just ask here or you can PM me, I have Admin rights so I can fix the common stuff, or I can get someone to help. Anyway there's plenty of soul's around that are only to willing to help as well.

I bought this kit last week and I have made a start while waiting for some bits to arrive butI have not started any painting and only the wings and engine nacelles are assembled thus far. I believe that this satisfied the less than 25% started rule? Pappy

IanJ I had a quick Google of this but couldn't find an answer although Did discover this interesting piece.. https://www.aerosociety.com/media/4847/a-brief-history-of-flying-clothing.pdf I do know that in the BPF a lot of the pilots that had been trained in the US wore US Navy flight overalls that they acquired during training. I think that Hank Adlam in his book said he preferred to fly wearing shirtsleeves, shorts and shoes. As far as I understand the FAA was slow in issuing flying kit but when it did it followed RAF practice. So I would guess the pilot for your chosen period and region would follow RAF practice.. Someone will be along in a minute that knows better though.. Edited May 13, 2018 by Grey Beema

You're as delusional as I am mad. Just got back in after a long day of 'socialising', that is pretending to be nice to people I avoid whenever possible. I'll get the thread started in the morning. Just realised that on GBs it's One abandoned M3/M4, One not finished Britmodeller 10th and now three on the go at once with a STGB as well; this, MTO, Me262, RAF Centenary. I need to get my success rate up, in fact I need a success rate

I have that problem, they all sit of the shelves around me looking at me, I live in constant fear that they are plotting their revenge on me for leaving them in that state! When it's all really quite in the dead of night you can just hear the chant "finish me ya sweetheart"!! Luckily that one is still 3 odd months away......I hope! bianfuxia
Is there anyone here who can help me with the deck layout of my Nimitz? I don't know much about carriers - I do know that the angled flight deck was invented to allow take off and recovery to happen at the same time. From my limited research it seems that they don't actually do this much, preferring to launch in waves then recover in waves. But presumably there must occasionally be a situation where planes are lined up for launching, and at the same time a plane has to come in to land. Maybe one takes off and has a problem, for example, and has to come straight back around. The reason I ask is because I'd like to have the front of the Nimitz set up to be launching a bunch of planes, but also maybe have one having just trapped (or maybe even right off the stern about to touch down). I don't really care too much about precise accuracy - it's more to show the different aspects of a carrier in operation given that I am not likely to build many and certainly no more of these big ones. So any suggestions on that would be very welcome! While not getting any bench time due to work recently I am still thinking about this GB ... thanks! Tyas
Newbie here requesting permission to go full speed ahead with my recently-acquired F-4S Phantom II! Actually this is for my local group build celebrating Phantom's 60th anniversary but I'd be more than happy to join with this (relatively affordable) Rhino.
