RAM Models

Recommended Posts

We have noticed some talk on the forum of not being able to contact RAM models, and of orders being taken but not dispatched. As RAM models had a trader forum here on Britmodeller we have attempted to contact them to ascertain if they were having any problems etc.

However to date we have not had any response from them and via PM or email. We have also noticed that they are no longer on facebook. As we have not been able to contact them their trader forum has been made inactive until they contact us.

If you are having problems getting products that you have paid for, or a refund of your money, you need to contact them directly using the telephone on their website, or via your local Trading Standards office.  If you are planning on purchasing from them, we would advise using a card or PayPal that you can get your money back in case of problems.

Please make any comments regarding your experiences with them here, rather than cluttering up the general forum, or by breaching the rules and using the Bad Traders forum.  That forum is for trades on Britmodeller onlyThanks :)

It is interesting to note that there is no Geographical address, company registration number, VAT number etc displayed on their website as required by The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002. Only a mobile number is shown.

The Mainly Military Modelling forum has/(had?) a good relationship with RAM Models, but even they haven't heard from Martin (the proprietor) since last December, but before that the firm was well thought of. I know some of

Martin's family had some serious health problems last year and ongoing, and that it caused a "wobble" in the firm (Martin posted there that it "made him take his eye off the ball"), so that might be a reason for the problems

people are having with RAM, but it's no excuse . . .

Well I for one hope that whatever is causing the problems is soon resolved because I have dealt with Martin in the past and have found him to be an excellent chap and his company have produced some very useful things in the short time they have been around. Yes Gaz, you are right but I hope that Martin is able to get in touch with his modelling friends again and to explain what has been happening so that we can understand his position. Of course, if he has accepted money for orders that have not then materialised then that needs sorting out as a matter of urgency

I have raised this problem several times, in various threads. and like others, I have received no response from Martin. The website is still active, and his facebook account is still active - he was online just a couple of days ago. Martin may have had personal problems to contend with, but it takes little to respond to people with some explanation.

Still hoping to get hold of one of the VC10's

Hi,

Did anyone ever find out what happened to RAM Models?

As unpleasant as this is to report it seems while the website is up and running and people are not getting product.

While its at people own risk to use it we would like to say that either use your credit card or paypal for the security it gives you.

Those two payment options will give you protection, but personally I wouldn't order from the site unless you have seen that people are starting to receive goods paid for.

This is an odd situation as RAM seems to have been set up with such good intentions.

I know a friend that ordered their F4 sheet and it arrived eventually (quite recently), but after a long time with no communication

I was keen to get their "Memphis Belle" movie Mustangs sheet that was announced ages ago. I emailed several times, and got no answer. I did have correspondence with RAM via the Flypast forum while he was researching this decal sheet, but that was the last I heard. Shame really, becasue I would certainly buy a set of those markings.

Regarding a previous post. Company Registration No would only be needed for a LTD company etc...RAM may still be a sole trader. Likewise with the VAT number. Only needed if you've exceeded the VAT threshold and are VAT registered. My online business is a Ltd co, but I've not crossed the VAT threshold yet (very nearly)...so I don't have a VAT number either.

Ordered a Phantom special colors set in 1/48 as it was soon available and well guess what...yeah never delivered!!

At least i payed with paypal so i got my money back.

But nevertheless it is a pitty as he had some very good decals in design and print!!

Maybe he has Alzheimers ot worse and forgot about the site and his family not knowing about it.....

Cheers, Jan

He mentions charging VAT on his website, but does not display a VAT number.

I ordered a set of decals for the Airfix Nimrod a while back. It took a few months for them to arrive (I was about to start looking into getting a refund via PayPal) but they are of excellent quality and, dare I say it, worth the wait.

I see! I didn't spot that. That's a bit different in that case!

Has anyone had any successful orders recently? I’m wanting to order the Nimrod set but don’t want to chance it.

I ordered the F4 set when it first came out and it came, not too fast but not overly long delivery times either.

This I feel this can be the soft underbelly of internet shopping, at least with bricks and mortar you can march in and ask.

Good luck folks, I hope it is nothing more than lazy management and you all get your items.

Hi Julien,

still nothing i’m afraid. The order has eventually showed up on my account on the website as processing, but still nothing email wise and funnily enough PayPal haven’t billed me for it yet.

IPMS still list RAM Models as a trader that gives 10% discount on production of a current membership card, and they say it is correct as of August 2018.

I thought they offered some good stuff and it is a shame if they are going south.
