This is definitely on the future acquisitions list. And I would second the vote for a Junkers G-38 too. I once had a (Fliegerhorst?) 1:72 resin kit of a G-38 but it was fairly appalling and I sold it on a few years back. Now it is someone else's doorstop!

It isn't propaganda artwork - just science fiction fan artwork.

not sure why that fan made that... the real thing was weird enough as-is!

Now you can see where RJ Mitchel got the Spitfire wing from......

Nope! The elliptical platform falls out of aerodynamic theory as the most efficient with respect to induced drag (the component of drag that is associated with the production of lift).

This is becuase the drag is proportional to the chord at the wingtip. Eliptical wing goes smoothly with chord to zero. Similar idea is with winglets - OK, not exactly but close...

Winglets act as endplates to reduce the strength of the wingtip vortices. As a result the wing spanwise lift distribution does not decrease as rapidly towards the wingtips as it would without them.

Ken,

Wow!  You're right!  It's very clear!

And now we definitely know where BAC got its ideas for the TSR.2 as well!

You think this might also have influenced the Avro Arrow as well?
