OH-58A Kiowa, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 1970

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Thought I`d show you some pic`s of my latest effort: my attempt at a Vietnam era Kiowa from the 1/48 Heller kit

PFbIviS.jpg

Finished to represent an aircraft of the 17th Cavalry Regiment, based at Quan Loi, Vietnam, 1970

What you see is mostly what you get in the box, but with the cable cutters left off and I decided to make life a bit more difficult....

.....by displaying it with all the doors removed as seen in many photo`s taken at the time.

The rear doors were easy enough but the front windows come with part of the windscreen frame and upper windows attached and took some careful cutting and filing.

Then just added some door armour plates and some bits of wire around the cockpit and rear cabin. Decals from Print +  Scale Set 48-060

Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking

Cheers Russ

Hello,Russ - As always, here's another superbly built, finished and portrayed subject.

I hope one of the ground crew will close 'Kiowa's doors before the heavens open up!?😱

😉👍 All the very best,Paul.

Hi Russ!

Great looking Kiowa. Nice you are building Vietnam era helicopters, too.

Cheers,

Cheers Mario, I have done a few Vietnam choppers that I`ve posted from time to time, there`s a Green Hornets Huey, Flying Banana, H-34 and a CH-46 Phrog somewhere in RFI. I`ve a few in the stash to do soon too.

Cheers again Russ.

Thanks too, to everyone for the likes and positive comments

Beautiful Kiowa Russ!

I remember the Heller 58 being more difficult to build than the Esci.  As you noted, the window arrangement is not easy if you want to leave the doors off.
