Thanks for the tip.I'll give it a try with Vallejo. The undercoat was pretty glossy already though. john
Martian
I don't use Vallejo metallics myself but it may be that it is designed to be sprayed from the bottle and thinning it still further speeds up the drying time too much, leading to problems. Although they are designed to be thinned before spraying, I experienced something like this when I first started using Lifecolour paints, even when using their own thinners. I changed to using just water as a thinner and everything was just fine. Martian
The Spadgent
Thanks for all your help guys. Not quite as much done as I wanted tonight but I'm happy with the results. I got all the bits and Bobs painted wires and buttons etc. I let everything dry then used my home brew Tamiya gloss coat, I'm really happy with the results and it's so much better than the rattle can stuff. sooo shiny. That'll have to dry over night then I can do a nice dark wash and get the tub constructed. Nice of you to drop by. time for a brew. Happy modelling you lot. Hope you're all having a lovely week. Johnny. Edited September 10, 2017 by The Spadgent

Biggles87
Coming to this late, as usual, the Aires cockpit looks really good and you paintwork is fantastic. In the original Monogram kit there was an attempt to show the different shades af some panels, which worked quite well. Also looking forward to the weathering. The Spadgent
Evening you lot. As I have @CedB 's eye and we are both amid a green cockpit I thought I'd press on and get the tub weathering done ( dark wash ) I've gone all step by step to lure Mr B into the wonderful world of weather, and to show how simple it is. step one. mix yer Flory black wth a stick, shacking it caused dreaded bubbles. get yer totally dry glossy part ad dab wash on in the crevices where you want darkness and slight grot. Or you can just slosh it on, 'tis up to you. To be fair I'm being quite restrained as I want a clean ish finish. let the bits dry ( about 20 mins ) then with a dry cotton bud or que tip rub over where you don't want the grot. if you want and if you're disgusting like me you can lightly lick the said bud to dampen it slightly to remove more wash. Once you're happy with the look. spray a mat coat. I can now do a little dry brushing to pick out some of the smaller details. Hope that's convinced Mr B to give his new washes a blast. while that was frying I had a practice at post shading the silver mule with thinned Tamiya smoke. Its a bit blobby as I was mucking about with seeing how far I could push it but it looks like it's going to work.. any how, it's bed for me. hope you all are enjoying the build. It's my Birthday this weekend and I'm hoping for some extra bits and bobs. I can smell resin wheels. fingers crossed. thanks for stopping by. take care and Happy Modelling. johnny bed. DMC
Cricky, Johnny, you are really on a roll. That paintwork looks superb. You've done the Aires folks proud and no doubt added a boost to their sales. At the rate you're going I'll be left behind in a cloud of resin dust before I barely get started. Finger out. Cheers Dennis
TonyTiger66
I'm enjoying this a lot Johnny . The metallic colour trials are interesting. I'm doing a tiny, tiny 1/72 NMF aircraft and have been similarly experimenting with very pongy Alclad. This Vallejo looks nice . With a decent sized canvas like this lightning the NMF is going to look great. The post shading with smoke tints is looking very interesting too. Great stuff! Martian
Not disgusting at all Johnny, I often use saliva to smooth off Miliput or PPP. Then again perhaps I'm disgusting too! Martian
