"Oooh Matron" It's a P-38 Lightning with a saucy paint job in 1/48

As ever John, some very nice work.

I liked the tutorial on the Flory washes but a couple of questions.

1. Where are they available from, I.E. Mail order?

2. What do you clean the brushes with?

Simon.

Thanks Simon.

if you Google "Flory" you'll find the web site. I ordered mine from there, really nice guy.  the washes are water based so no messing about with chemicals you just use water.

Easy peasy. ^_^

Thanks guys for all the lovely comments, and birthday wishes.:cowboy:

Reluctant to do any meaningful sticking and cutting before my birthday tomorrow. ( Not sure what goodies I might get for the P-38 ) I decided to dicker about and try some dry fitting of the main parts as I've heard some horror stories, as this is my first Academy kit I felt it prudent. Here goes.

The lower boom halves seem to be a butt joint, I have never come across one before but luckily the fit seems good.

A P-38 shape.:rambo:

so on with the top half.

although I've just seen that bit at the back of the closest boom the fit once again was good. That little bit just wiggled out of place as I took the pic.

and a close up, I didn't tidy any edges yet so it'll get better.:elephant:

the worst part is meant to be the nose but....

feels like I might explode. Why is it all going so well? Madness......

tail plane and pit section on to check for levels.

Aaaaaand all ok. Blimey, I'll leave that now and see what comes wrapped up tomorrow.:gift:

not quite quenched the thirst and having about 30 mins left to fiddle I glued this.

and lightly dry brushed the back parts with mid grey. Time to stick on the IP dials.

can you see it?  yes cotton headed ninimuggins as I am I've gone and painted the wrong side. all is not lost, remembering the BM moto.... wait there is no Moto so I tried stuff till it worked! :eat:

Brit modeller. "Try stuff until it works" I like it.

any way I tried Tamiya thinner and a cotton but praying that the black didn't smear into infinity.

I'm on house painting and sunshine duty for the rest of the day but I'll leave you with this shot on the arm of my comfy chair upstairs.

Looking good Johnny - I would have been very tempted to glue that while it was all nicely in place; I admire your patience!

Have a great birthday tomorrow :D

Hope you have a great birthday.

I m with Ced, I wouldn't have been able too resist getting the glue out. The pit looks excellent, and the fit appears to be a really nice one... you will have this all buttoned up in no time!
