jb2_86_uk
I had hoped to post this in the ‘wanted’ section, but I don’t meet the 100-post criteria yet! Since really getting back into modelling over the last month or two, I’ve had the idea to build my favourite aircraft I trained for my CPL in - specifically the one I did my first flight, first solo, several progress tests and my qualifying cross-country in. It treat me very well. It’s a PA-28 Cadet, reg. G-CEEU. Does anyone have any suggestions for good PA-28 models, and whether or not the u/c of the Arrow/Cherokee varients would easily lend themselves to Cadet-fication (I.e fixed and without fairings). I have found a kit here (https://www.aviationmegastore.com/chincul-pa-a-28-140-cruiser---revised-kit--01-73706-aero-modell-4027378737068-general-aviation-aircraft-modelling/product/?action=prodinfo&art=113650) which looks as close to what I am after (below) – but I was really hoping for a larger scale than 1:72, and I have no idea what sort of quality to expect from this manufacturer. I’m not looking to faithfully recreate -EU down to the cracked leather upholstery or the leaky oleo-struts – I would just like a PA-28 resembling a Cadet, in the right colours with accurate decals I can have made up. As I mentioned, I am only just picking modelling back up, and haven’t done any modification or scratch building yet, but I am fairly confident I could fill-in wheel wells or amend window frames if needed This was the fateful morning my instructor decided the world was ready for me to go solo! Any comments or advice are welcome! Cheers John Edited March 22, 2017 by jb2_86_uk Mixing up the PA-28 variants!
Jessica
The Minicraft Cherokee 140 looks like the one you're looking for.
jb2_86_uk
Thanks Jessica! That does look great and 1:48 scale would be perfect. My only problem is the wheel fairings. Has anyone any experience with this kit or similar and how feasible it would be to build without the wheel fairings
Jessica
You'd have to chop them off and replace them with scratch-build gear legs.
wallyinoz
[ This is the minicraft cherokee .. url=https://flic.kr/p/DDCFM7][/url] there is no spatless wheel option in the box so you will have to scratch that up there is an Aurora 1/72 Cherokee available (well at least I have one in the stash) but it too has spats
sanguin
John, Scalemates will give you a range of kits, but there is also a wide range of Piper Cherokees, I think: https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?q="piper+pa-28+cherokee" Also a rather old kit review of sorts: http://www.austinsms.org/article3_05.php And here on Britmodeller if you put 'Cherokee' into the search box you will find some more useful information on kits that members have built. jb2_86_uk
Thanks John, it was through Scalemates that I found the Aero Modell kit. I didn't find it particularly helpful when it came to finding where kits were available from retailers though - although that could be a failing on my part! I have got in touch with Minicraft and it looks as though they are willing to offer Intl shipping (I'm in the UK) even though it's not an option on their website. So hopefully I'll be able to use their 1:48 kit and try my hand at a bit of scratch building!
sanguin
John You can get it in the UK with just Post Office postage. Try here: http://www.kingkit.co.uk/plastic-model-kit-minicraft-1-48-11677-piper-cherokee-24009.html or here: https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/minicraft-piper-cherokee-11677-p-66222.html There may be other UK shops, too. Go Google. It is probably cheaper and with faster delivery..... John (who has used both companies to buy kits and can recommend both)
Barneydhc82
John: Your photo is of the PA-28-140 but it was not called a `Cadet`...this was the name used after the -140 line was terminated and the PA-28-151é161 Warrior became the stripped down trainer. I ran a flying school and Piper dealership in the late 1970s. That 1:48 Minicraft kit is as good as you will find. Barney

Hi, you are free to ask where you can source a kit on the forums, but not to directly ask other member to sell it to you. That can only be done in the wanted section once you reach 100 posts. jb2_86_uk
Hi all, Thanks for all the information, it has proved very helpful. I am going to get the minichamps model and try my hand at some scratch-building mods! JB
757flyer
Another note to consider is that the 140 for sure, and I believe all of the injection Cherokee kits have the straight wing of the early production PA28 variants, and not the tapered wing of the Cadet. Not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of. I too trained on the Cadet, and would some day like to build a model of one. Mike
