Having read the last few pages I feel I know what the inside of Les Dawson's head must have been like now.... (Would that actually work as a seaside attraction? The Les Dawson's Head Experience - just off Jnct.17 on the M5. Bring a goat! ) Now then. Must be nearly a fortnight you've had the run of the place and I must say you've kept it remarkably clean - of anything to do with modelling whatsoever. In fact it's with some surprise that I recollect there was even an aircraft here at all at one stage. What was I doing with it again? Ah well, it'll come to me in time no doubt... The hols were rather decent. The last week at Lyme Regis was like staying in Italy with Lyme Bay doing duty for the Bay of Naples - blazing sun all day and Mediterranean dusks looking across to Portland. The sky was quite busy also, I guess in the run up to Yeovilton. A mini formation of Tiger Moths passed over the beach one lunchtime - was there ever a more summery sound than such engines buzzing overhead in the heat? - and on the last afternoon a Chinook came belting along just offshore below the level of then house we were staying in, to be followed later by an Apache, the latter dawdling presumably to eye-up the talent on the beach... Most people of course come back off holiday with a porcelain donkey for the mantlepiece or some drinks coasters. I'm pleased to say that that I returned with forceps. If you're ever down Weymouth way I urge you to drop into a bookshop called Books Afloat a couple of streets in from the main shopping area. It's a dying breed of shop (regrettably) that is absolutely crammed with maritime and aviation stuff upstairs, from ships' telegraphs to old piles of wartime HMSO publications. I picked this lot up for a tenner: Such wartime publications fascinate me, realizing that these were the materials that people of the time had access to rather than the subsequent benefits of hindsight and the internet. It's also surprising just how many images I've not seen reproduced elsewhere: I know you can find these on Eelbay but it doesn't match the thrill of pushing aside some cups and saucers off a postwar steamer to find a pile of these calling to you from underneath does it? On the journey home to get the ferry we were escorted for a while up the M6 by not one but two chapters of Hell's Angels. Regret to say that the Steppenwolf Greatest Hits CD wasn't in the Skoda and besides, I havenae the hair for it these days... In no particular order The chandelier - fixed (sort of if the PVA holds) The Starfix collection - untouched except for all the scorn spilled over it The coal fired stairlift - much improved since we found some smokeless fuel The 'My Little Pony' duvet set in the master bedroom - we hope you like the HP Sauce pattern. A lot of thought went into that. Complete set of Des O' Connor LP's - now on eBay There's now a genuine Banksy in the squash court Blodwen the cat's missing but there is now a gekko called Brian living in the budgie cage we found in the garage. Pete tried scrubbing the heliotrope paint off the bathroom suite - it's now more of a delicate pink. His hands are raw from scrubbing with Vim. Dorset is a lovely part of the world, I often go camping next to West Bay just outside of Bridport - stunning. Although I must admit I have more of a soft spot for East Dorset, Purbeck, Kimmeridge and Lulworth. Oh yeah the damage...hope you don't mind a few broken cups...not too bad though...you know wot I mean....the beer made me do it...erm as Bill said I'll buy you a curry if ever you visit Brum...gotta go mate tarra a bit...
