shatters
Can someone confirm that 2sqn had spitfire 22's I thought they were a recce squadron . Phil
Giorgio N
I believe the Spitfire Mk.22 in that picture to belong to 608 Sqn. The codes for this unit was RAO and this is very compatible with what is visible (the O and part of what looks like an A). Very nice and interesting pictures in any case, thanks for sharing ! Graham Boak
Just being awkward I know, but I'd loved to have seen more of that Queen Mary, and whatever was towing it. And how the other Mosquito parts were held in place. Isn't it always that way? Nice photo, however, and probably enough in itself to do the trailer.

Phil 2 Squadron were (still are!) definitely a recce squadron and definitely flew Spitfires, but not Mk. 22s. Theirs were FR. XIVs and wore "OI" code letters. Wez
The Squadron badge on the Vampire at Gut' in 1951 looks like 26 Sqn. Thanks for sharing these. Edited March 2, 2019 by Wez
tonyot
Thanks for sharing your Dad`s superb photos,...... I love seeing views like this and they are very much appreciated. I used to liase with Sqn Ldr Maurice Biggs (ex chairman of the Society of friends of the fleet air arm museum) who served on 26 Sqn as a Vampire pilot at around the same time as your Dad,...... he converted from Tempest II`s onto the Vampire and retired after years flying the VC-10! If yes, then it could be Mosquito B.35 TA654 which crashed on landing Celle 18.9.50. Mark Huxtable's excel-sheet does not have any other 98 Sqn Mosquito B.35 crashes at Celle. Unit emblem on the nose does not look like 98 Sqn one, though, so nothing is certain.
