The kit sound like the AV Resins one.  TBH, you can scratch the fuselage with a Condor V2.

Allegedly the F86 prototype broke the sound barrier on a test flight a week before the X1.

That is a very nice model.

I've just uploaded my scratch build version of the same aircraft.  Great minds think alike!

 

Very emotive subject and I agree with all on old Winkle Brown.  We could do with more of his like, but sadly we are so tied down with red tape nowadays that his sort of innovation and gung ho spirit just get stifled.  It's a wonder we ever produce anything.
