KA Models 1/72 F-14A Tomcat

Recommended Posts

I came across this while shopping on Taobao in China. Its a Korean brand I am unfamiliar with, but it seems packed full of goodies for a 1/72 scale so I decided to try it out. It cost about US$25. A bit pricey but its a unique kit as it came with 2 sets of PE parts, rubber tyres and cockpit mask..

It also has a spare engine mokd for display.

And the decals GLOW in the dark!

Parts has recessed panel lines. Lines appear crisp and well molded.

Alas the cockpit canopy has an ugly line right through the middle.

Parts have good level of details.

It comes with spare aircraft engines, and like I said good level of detail.

For a 1/72 kit its surprising they offer flap position options.

The phoenix missiles seems to some added bumps. I wonder why. I will find out as I assemble it.

Lots of PE for the cockpit.

Color chart for painting as well as well labelled decal chart. First time I see decal description so you know where and which decal to place.

It could be worse than Fujimi. Never seen their F-14, but the reviews used to place it right behind Hasegawa.

If the decals glow in the dark, use a Geiger counter, as they could have built a cheap model factory in Chernobyl, where the real estate is good value for money.

Have fun!

A Fujimi Tomcat with added PE parts, masks and a metal pitot tube for $25 sounds pretty good to me, at least compared to what we pay in Europe (here a second hand Fujimi cat alone would cost $20-$25).

Looking forward to this build ! The Fujimi Tomcat is a very good kit and those extra parts should improve the base plastic even further

It look like a reboxed Fujimi F-14.

It is 👍🏿

with added etch and masks.

And the bumps are because they are 'A' model phoenix, but a bit over prominent.

Bumps not on the later C model.

I will enjoy seeing this build.

I have the Fujimi kit, and very nice one it is.

From what I have read about the Hasagawa 1/72 kit, the Fujimi is the better kit.... but in truth I have not seen the Hasegawa kit.

Sorry all, finally got around to building this kit. Pictures of cockpit done, pardon the miserable skills.

The painted PE scratches easily, so need to take care. Also the painted instrument panels is not accurately in the middle of the part, so there is abit of offset to the side.

Sorry was busy working and fixing the model so did not post for a while.

OK, continuing work on the front fuselage and nose area. This time working on AN/AWG-9 radar from the PE set that was supplied. As its 1/72 scale, lots of tiny parts to be glued together.

Oops I lost a few tiny antennas, but this will do I guess.

Glued the front fuselage together but decided to add some custom work to the radar. Drilled a hole through the radar holder and inserted some fine wires to simulate wiring from the cat to the radar dish.

The hole for the nose cannon is an empty gap. Will need to figure out how to fill that. The front fuselage fit quite nicely and some sanding to smooth the joint lines.

Working on the body, this calls for cutting a hole to fit in the "fan box" from the PE set. Not sure anything will be visible after fitting in the covering grill but anyway since it came with the kit, here goes.

Yeah, when fitting the grill on top, not sure we can see the inner fan and parts. Anyway bear in mind to fit the grill in last after the body is painted.
