1/144 DH 89A Dragon Rapide

This is the Aeroclub boxing of the Automobile Associations Traffic Spotter and is largely built out of the box. I rigged it using some 0.1mm nickel silver wire from Albion Alloys and used the same material for the whip aerials. I then used Uschi van der Rosten's 1/144 rigging thread for the main aerial wire and added the nav and position lights using Microscale Kristal Klear.

I made the base from a cheap coaster covered with some railway modelling material 'Summer Meadow' and a left over piece of 1/144 hard standing. The figures are Noch N gauge and were painted using various shades from Vallejo, Citadel and Humbrol. The pilot, being a good friend of the family, has invited little Timmy down for his first flight. No 'elf 'n' safety' in the 1950's

After closer study of photos provided in a link by Dave Swindell, a number of further enhancements have taken place. The main changes have been the removal and replacement of the tailplane supports by a double wire and removal of the wind powered generator from the port wing. One other minor alteration was a covering of black paint to the rear of the prop blades.

I have left the original photos as they were and now include this final one of the kit in its post-mod state, other photos are over iin the build thread.

                                                                                                              Trumpeter 1/48 DH100 Vampire FB. Mk.5

Kit goes together nicely, I know it has accuracy issues, but quite a nice simple build.

Used Tamiya acrylics paints.

     1/72 FROG DH F-3 HORNET

               19 SQUADRON

     RAF CHURCH FENTON                               LATE 1940'S

The trusty old 1970's Frog kit rubbed down and scribed. Painted in Alcad II semi-matt aluminium over grey and gloss primers giving a slightly different finish around the leading edges and other areas. Alclad II light burnt metal was used on the exhausts with Alclad II chrome on the spinners. One or two bits from the spares bin were added as was a little scratch building such as the fuselage strap but built with nearly all original Frog stock parts.

DH89 Dragon Rapide G-AKIF

Classic Wings, Duxford

1/72 Heller

When Procopius was over here for the BoB 75th we met 06/24 at Duxford and had a trip in the Rapide. I bought the Heller kit there and promised to build it as the one we flew in.

I wish we'd flown in something easier to model! One of my longest WiPs ever here.

DH 60 Gypsy Moth - Amy's Jason G-AAAH

Frog 1/72

WiP thread here.

Amy Johnson's Jason G-AAAH. The 'This Day In Aviation' website says:

24 May 1930: After a 19-day, 11,000 mile (17,700 kilometer), solo flight from Croyden Aerodrome, London, England, 26-year-old Amy Johnson arrived at Darwin, Australia in her de Havilland DH.60G Gipsy Moth, G-AAAH, named Jason. She received a £10,000  prize from the Daily Mail newspaper.

Tony Tiger reminded me that it's tomorrow in Australia so here she is. The aircraft is preserved at the Science Museum, Kensington, London.
