My dad was a Vice-President of Management Information Systems with Nightingale-Conant back in the 1980s and 1990s...he had maybe four people who worked for him. The mania for vice-presidents was (and may still be) very real in late-20th Century US corporations.

The company I work for totals 43 people. There is a company president and three vice-presidents. One of those vice-presidents has a grand total of one person working for them.

So, yes, still very real :D.

My employer is a not-for-profit, and one of our divisions at one point had a Director, two Assistant Directors, and a temp who did all the work that they shared with another department because somehow, they had used up all the money allocated to them for staff salaries.

There's an old guided-missile cruiser kicking around Buffalo as well, isn't there? Hmm.

Yup. USS Little Rock Guided Missile Cruiser, USS The Sullivans Destroyer, USS Croaker submarine, PTF-17 patrol boat, F-101 Voodoo, P-39 Airacobra, UH-1 Huey, FJ-4 Fury, M-41 tank, M-84 armored personnel carrier, etc.

Come on, you know you want to.

Cheers,

Bill

PS. I got to sleep in the Captain's berth on-board the Little Rock during a Boy Scout overnight encampment. Cool!

Oh dang!

Also, after idly googling RAF seatbelts, I think I accidentally doubled up on should straps:

I think there are two parts to make up the shoulder straps PC, I think you have done it correctly.

I just wish I could find a photo of the real thing showing that.

Oh, okay, here we go.

Bugger. Looks like the two sets of shoulder straps need to be merged?

Ah I see; yours are not merged? It isn't really noticeable. If it bothers you, a little bending of the 'upper' straps with the tweezers might fix it?

They are not. And of course I've put the canopies on. I guess at least I know for next time, but I feel really stupid.

Apparently this is a topic of some dispute. I found this:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/thread/1295649550/2/Spitfires+and+Sutton+Harnesses

which sort of came to no conclusion. It's awfully hard to find a picture of a "spitfire harness" or "spitfire seat" which doesn't show a model these days. And somewhere lower in the image search results were some other harnesses that I can't unsee...

Nice builds by the way. I like the picture of the Spitfires all peeling off across the desk.

Regards,

Adrian

I wouldn't worry too much. Most kits don't even provide you with the lower set of straps, why would you know? None of us noticed either.

At least I'm in good company.

Yes, rather more heat than light.

Avoiding sounding like a teenager with too many 'likes' but I'm with the others PC - they look great to me and, given the discussions, no one will comment on your careful fixings...

I found an explanation of the harness on spitfire.com and it looks like the 'back' straps were fixed to the bottom of the seat (to hold the pilot down?) and connected to the others that connected to the cable in the rear to hold the pilot back? The straps seem to be connected just under the shoulders?

Could that be why the first set is shown 'close to the seat' on the Eduard 'instructions'?

Whatever, they still look great :)

Sorry Bill. Be careful what you wish for, though: I spent a week visiting poor Cookenbacher last year.

A highly recommended experience Bill! You're welcome back any time PC. In fact, my parents were just talking the other day about how much they enjoyed your company - so you have a place to stay in NM whether I'm here or not.

The harnesses look just like the ones in the instruction sheet, so I say, "good job" on that. I just use tape, so you are way ahead of me.

Aw shucks. I'm still hoping to coerce you up for Oshkosh someday. Someday...

Mrs P. and Winston appear to be having fun down in Arizona right now:

Meanwhile, I languish up here in the cold. Only a shipment from Spruebrothers is keeping me warm:

The plain boxes are not, in fact, pornography, but rather Spitfire IXc overtrees, who will courageously donate their upper wings to make a pair of USAAF Spitfires that had the late carb and early bulges. Some of the leavings will then be used to make Al Deere's Spitfire IXc, which had late bulges and an early carb, according to Fundekals, who would never lie to me, never.

I also did a little work on the Spitfires, but I'm tired, as I ran today and then counted up the calories from a milkshake (about a billion) and couldn't eat anything more, and then I got sucked into doing housework and cleaning up Madeleine's house and feeding the bloody birds and and and anyway.

I found that by fitting the sides of the radiators first, the PE fit inside reasonably well. Not without doing it wrong a few times first though.

I also masked another Spitfire:

Still two more to go:

Those radiators do look nice PC, thanks for the tip.

Seeing that picture of Mrs P and Winston, I suddenly had a Proustian flashback reminding me of what 'warm' feels like. I imagine you were similarly affected.

Cheers,

One of the really cool things about living in Chicago is that sometimes the wind comes at you in such a way as to make you feel like you're wearing nothing at all -- your clothing is simply no defence against the overwhelming, all-conquering cold. One of the drawbacks of living in a part of the country that's almost totally flat.

That do look great! Nice work on the intake, which has been squirrelled away for later reference...

the little guy looks like he is having a whale of i time, very cute!

now I know everyone loves spitfires, myself included... but didn't you say you had 26 of the Eduard mkix not including the 4 currently on the go, and you have just received a further 6 making 32?? Probably close to the total number of my stash... now I'm either talking out of jealousy or concern, you can decide, but do you think you have a problem?.... "Hello my name is Edward and I'm addicted to Eduard mkix spitfires"
