A GOTHA

Bob , Invidia ; Thank you.

Wheels made it to tire treatments , some grey/white and then a violet drop added and a glaze made for base coloring:

The violet is only on the inner edges of the tire , it will go through grey to almost white in the tire middle.

I like to remove the masking as soon as possible:

These are heat dried , sealed with gloss clear and will be left for a good while to cure.

The lavender color is subtle and hardly shows here , but I'm happy with it.

They will be embedded/weathered with the rest of the underside when its done.

Obviously some work needed still.

Much of it green/grey with chipping to come:

Thanks Claudius.

Shovelheads , Evolutions , to the Revolution VRSCR I ride currently.

Work continues on the parts stream , ever-present green/grey applied and chipped , looking for the base finish of the parts :

Sealed up with the 50/50 clear:

Some of the larger detail pieces of the kit , and focal points as well.

Final work on the simulated plywood underside.

First some clear orange , then clear red:

Then the red/black/brown mix:

And smoke to tie it all together:

IMG-6256.jpg

Finished with the clear mix.

Most of this will be covered by the light blue overall underside color , some areas will have wear with the plywood showing through.

This part is now ready for the wing painting session ahead.

Tailfeathers connected and the slight gap filled with hsp:

IMG-6259.jpg

Figuring out the paint sequence is coming clearer.

These parts need to be connected and their seams addressed.

Looking at the top wing with an eye for assy and getting the joint seam dealt with. I think I'll make a cradle.

And so I did  a plate out of 12mm composite material:

Sizing:

Test clamping:

Final clamping and a lovely ooze from the joint:

Larger components gathered:

This plate takes the plexi model jig parts and has been setup to take A Gotha.

Smallish update.

The small sink mark gets filled:

IMG-6297.jpg

Seams disappear.

This would be the way to do this, leaving off the VS & rudder , filling the seams with sprue:

IMG-6289.jpg

And coming back in I stabilized the wings to the jig with some small pieces of double-tape.:

IMG-6298.jpg

… and filled the center joints with sprue:

IMG-6300.jpg

Looks like I made some more work for myself , too much glue and it oozed up into the strut holes.

Trying to finish off the wing underside .

IMG-6513.jpg

IMG-6512.jpg

IMG-6524.jpg

And the proposed bomb load is proven to be unworkeable:

IMG-6528.jpg

Problem solved :

IMG-6535.jpg

I'll leave the 2 outer racks empty.

And the AEG GIV kit is yielding some bomb rack gear that is well moulded , I can rob some parts and not effect the kit too much.

And lastly some pencilled in panel lines , completely spurious , and gauge bezels for the rack mounts:

Stunning work as usual. Really interested to see the camo goes on. Might inspire me to finally build my zepplin stakken ( contrail 1/72 in the stash but leaning towards a 1/144 scratch)

Thank you , Marklo.

I think this procedure may be impossible in the smaller scales though, the shapes would be too small to work with. Decals in those scales may be a better bet.

I'm warming up the house in anticipation of the first color application . Last night a review of the work resulted in the change up in colors to these :

Thank you for the interest , I'm thinking there will be a real spike in attendance here as I go through this!
