I have to say Ced, the kit is far from perfect but the detail is nice and you appear to be making a great job of it!

 

i really like have that was has turned out, luckily my local hobby store (Hereford model centre, it's like a proper toy/model shop that I used to go to as a kid, an electric train running round the rafters and kits stacked in piles! ) stock the full citadel range (and tamiya and Vallejo ) so will have to get some!

Looking good. I must admit that the weathering now just looks good to me after putting it together with the pilot in it.. The kit reminds me of Roden's He 111 . Well and nicley detailed but a catastrophic fit, which made me stay away from builing it. Good to see that glazing nose fits well. I think one headache less for you.

Thanks Benedikt - the wash does settle down after a while as it dries out.

 

I've closed up the rear. Nice fit but it has one of those irritating round edge gap in the tail and rear:

 

 

 

Nothing that a bit of filler won't sort out.

I've been dry-fitting the rear fuselage to the mid-section - that link that Alexey posted a while ago suggested taping all the parts together and then glueing right at the end. I can sort of see why, and that's why I've left the trailing edges unglued, but the fuselage still 'pops out' annoyingly. The thought occurred to me that the glue would melt the locators a bit and settle the join - but then perhaps it might not. Eventually I decided to just go for it:

 

 

Making sure the join was melding and clamping the trailing edge and wing root to keep it closed. Fingers crossed!

 

I'm really pleased I bought a canopy masking set for this - the frames are very fine - so that's a job to be getting on with while the glue dries.

Round edge gaps? You need filler and a rounded scraping gizmo  Can't post a pic right now, but if you're interested I can probably do it tomorrow.

Alex is having a bit of a rest due to his cold Ced, but as he says, 'you can never have too many clamps'.

 

I hope it stops 'popping' and starts to behave.

 

I've been having a ponder over crew members and 'fit'. I know it's probably too late, but what about trying Matchbox crew figures?

 

I have this Dornier in the stash; my mental picture (now there's a concept ), suggests that the three light blue German chaps in this kit may fit your Avia. They're slim and well defined, unlike me:

Shame about that German chappie, he is a bit chunky, must have been all that bratwurst! When I was cutting them off the Dornier sprue, it did seem that the crew were different sizes - were two of them smaller than the other two? When I was rifling through the spares box looking for others for you, I came across a couple of fairly poor jet pilots - they were a really weird size, somewhere between 1/72 & 1/48! Have no idea where they came from but I do know where they went - straight in the bin, they were awful!

Hey, hey, hey, Nothing against a german Bratwurst ( with a good beer) !!!! Ced could put him on a strict diet: FdH= Friss die Hälfte ( rude: just eat half), but that would put some time and good will. I think Tony's idea with the Matchbox ones could be good alternative .

Thanks TT - Keith has very kindly sent me some other pilots and they'll be appearing soon, but I think I want to mould some copies later so this one is going to have to make do with just the pilot. It'll be fine - that's one more than the kit provides! I've just checked my Airfix Ju52 in the stash in case there were some candidates there and look who's supplied:

 

 

Hey, they're not Luftwaffe, they're 'chubbies' - with FACES - must be an old mold (tell me about it) so they're going in the molding pile...

Thanks Keith - especially for the pilot selection, very kind. The Dornier crew are two sorts (oooh, get me, crew expert!); pilots with their legs straight out and crew with their legs bent. Sadly they're all too fat - must be the Bratwurst and beer as you say (although I don't have the former as an excuse for my figure)

Boring scraping, filing and sanding this morning to get rid of high spots and (small) steps:

Note the riffler files - also a Fritag recommendation and great for (gently) removing steps on round areas.

Then, unusually, I felt like some masking so I started on the canopy. The main one fits well after cutting out the bits at the back bottom (??!):

 

 

and the windscreen fits well. They just don't fit together:

 

 

I followed the Eduard guide to choose the screen that matched the single-slot nose - the instructions just have a '?' next to the parts.

I've got the wrong one, haven't I?

I must straighten up the masks too - I always have to remind myself that I'm masking the windows, not the frame, but they need to line up and, if you don't get it right, the photos will highlight it (see above).

Patience gone (again) - more later.

Mhh,  I don't know. Maybe. It's a good looking one at the end but I don't hate Ced at all and don't want to embarrass him or drive him to desperation. So, the Airfix Superfreigter could be an option, what you wanted some time ago.

Thanks TT - the 111 earlies do look like interesting subjects but I'm not looking for any more problems kits than I already have - yet. I almost added one to my Scalemates wish list but thought better of it until I've done some more research!

Disciplining myself to (gradually) mask up the canopies. Future builders - watch the masks for the nose; if you get the wrong one, they almost fit and you'll spend ages trying to get them aligned before you realise the error (ask me how I know)

Note that I've left the filling until after the clear parts go on, although so far the fit is great (and the original aircraft had sliding canopies, so they shouldn't be too tight anyway).

Interesting job - the joins are supposed to be a bit gappy so the only join points are the hinges really. Bit of patience required while the TET takes hold.
