Belkits 1/24 Escort Mk.1 1970 London-Mexico World Cup Rally, Mikkola/Palm

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately not! I did try out the Le Mans green car touch up paint I got off e-bay to check it was safe on Belkits plastic, so some (very little) progress!!

Hmm, will bear the Ronal's in mind if I ever manage to do a replica of my last ever Mk2, a really tidy little Harrier (wish I still had that one, the shell was 100% perfect) - every other Escort I had had Minilites (or copies of same!)

Almost there... As anticipated getting the body over the tub/chasssis was a heart stopping/blue air few minutes work. Once done what I thought was surface dust is actually trapped inside and visibly attached to the windows and I'm loathe to remove the shell. Other small bits have been frustrating me too, either breaking due to handling or disappearing into the carpet. Only a few odds and ends yet to attach such as mud flaps and the aux rear light. Like Nick Belbin's build I too fashioned some longer boot lid fastners from wire and added a wire pin and loop to the bonnet PE parts.

Thanks Roger.

The kit nearly got stunned with something heavy and flat after spotting another error. Off with the bull bar, spots and lamp brackets, headlamp protectors and mesh grille as the lamps were set too far outboard. It is becoming less than enjoyable now. The 2nd attempt is now setting...and breathe!

On a happier note, today I received a shed load of photos of H1 FEV , the car from the Anniversary rally. My contact was timekeeping on one of the stages and took many close-up shots. The artwork for the stamps should keep me quite for a while.

What they both said :ditto: !

I just caught up with this. What a superb kit, what a superb build of it too..

My third car was an Escort Mk. I. It felt so very modern, so quiet, great gearchange, really nice car. Reg LAL 896K. Obviously not a rally one, but very fond memories, rekindled by this build.

:goodjob:

Thanks for the comments.

I've rectified the lamp bar issues and all is back together again. Scratch mudflaps added from black plasticard, front corner flaps are the kit offerings reshaped, although not truly accurate. Other little items now attached, so bar a bit of touching in here and there this is it for this one. I'm planning a small display base and a light weathering. The photos below are more of a reference to indicate positioning of decals and ancillary items. Finished build pics will be in the RFI section erelong.

Looks superb, Mark. As iconic a Ford as the Gulf-liveried GT40.

I know it's been a challenging kit and a lot of hard work has gone into it but the satisfaction from completing it is immense. I think I'll have to do this car as well now - that makes four Mk1s to do!

Are you going to Telford? If so, please bring along one of your upgrade kits for this car . . .

Thanks Keith and Nick.

I'll most likely be at Telford wandering around as usual. As mentioned I'm collecting info for H1 FEV so could that be five Nick?

Now back to the Transit chassis... and the Panigale...

I sincerely hope those are wings to keep cars on the ground at speed? :D  A nice 13" Ford RS Ronal arrived in the parcel too, start saving!

What width are the RS alloys ?  6 , 7 or 7.5 inch ?

One of my favourite rally cars

One of my favourite vehicles full stop! I can almost hear that engine screaming :)

I have this kit in the stash waiting for a start-slot

Absolutely fantastic bulid and beautifully clean finish!

Inspiring!

UPDATE Don't you just love Facebook 🤔 Following some feedback and further research it has come to light that the scheme I have done above is as the car appears in the Heritage collection. The car on the event had slightly different and addtional sponsor decals. Well now I've corrected that and done a further four iterations. Beginning with the car as it appeared on the start line, two verions with additional decals applied at different stages en-route and the car for the post race photo shoot when 'FINLAND' appeared across the bonnet.

Nice Mk1 Escort.  This thread has made interesting reading despite not being able to open the majority of pictures on my tablet.

Well now Belkits!  You brought out one of my wishes, a Metro 6R4.

Next one, a Mk1 Lotus Cortina perhaps?    It's one of those cars in dire need of kitting in road, race and rally versions, and am sure it would be a really good seller.

There is a resin kit available, and rumours of more to come in the next few monthes. Decal schemes and resin detail sets are out there too.

I know of two resin kits of the Lotus Cortina Mk1.

There was a kit issued by someone in South Africa I believe a number of years ago. I guess long out of production after a limited run.

The other I know of in 1/24th scale also is produced by Rod and Ian Knott who run the Motor Museum In Miniature.

One of the South African models is in their museum collection that has been around the shows and may have inspired them to kit one themselves. Incidentally, they also make a Morris Minor kit in resin.

MB? Aren't you on the MotoBitz website?  I guess that you have your ear to the ground better than most of us if more Mk 1 Lotus Cortinas are about to hit us.

Thanks. It is a faithful representation of all those fuzzy photos.😂
