Thanks Glynn. I tend to agree with you especially as the clear parts in the kit are on the thick side. I would like to be able to find my Falcon vacform parts but things are still settling down after the great house refurbishment.

Martian

Do you not do a bit of vac forming your self martian ,I know what you mean about lost parts i was hoping to enter a 1/48 flagon in the warsaw pact nato group build but I've misplaced the resin nose and undercarriage detail and ive not moved house or refurbished starting to think I'vethrown them out by mistake,

I suppose I could have a go but I am not confident in my ability to do a decent job on the multi faceted nose glazing.

This is looking really good Martian, I had this kit yonks ago but couldn't bring myself to build it, something to do with those nasty Luftwaffe types trying to sink the brave destroyer boys. It's now long gone, pity, I'd have no such scruples now, but will enjoy watching yours come together instead. :)

Hi Martian,

Just caught up with your latest epic. I too have fond memories of building this one way back when and painting it with my Crimbo prezzie set of Humbrol Authentic Luftwaffe colours! So if I may I'd like to sign up for another Martian epic.

Now as for this 'keep it simple' mantra; Its you! ;) I am just awaiting the multi-piece functioning bomb stays and Picador pick dispensers and Matador's a hat hanging from the rear viewing mirror.

Now this large breeze block, (or two), that arrived. Would it be coming from a certain source over the pond and contain, amongst other things the numerals 001on the box and instruction sheet?

Thanks Steve, they are still pretty affordable on Evilbay, although I would tend to go for an earlier boxing such as this as the fit will tend to be better.

In that case I am going to be rude, it will be the thin edge of the wedge otherwise. I had to try very hard not to get carried away when I was doing the cockpit yesterday.

Welcome aboard Christian. No, this really is going to be kept simple because a: I don't need another complicated build on my hands at the moment and b: to do otherwise would negate the whole point of this experiment.

As to your last comments, you may be getting warm! Am I really that predictable?

Edit: Just started work on re-scribing the wings, whacko!

Great start, liking the love that the cockpit is getting :)

Cheers Woody, I may add a little bit more if only to keep our colonial cousin happy. :wicked:

Nice choice.

If I may offer some advice?

Try not to get glue all over your fingers and then in turn all over the transparent cockpit parts, it makes a horrible smeary mess. Also, gloss green paint will not look good when used with matt green as a camouflage effect.

Nice work so far :pipe:

Thanks Smudge, I seem to remember that I made those mistakes first time round with this kit!

Errrr, how can I put it:idea: YES!

When I came across the advert in SAM December issue IIRC, my first thought was that Martian will be involved. ;)

+1 for the special love of little-bits-of-white-plastic thought. Looking forward to seeing some more pictures!

It was Sgt Squarehead who alerted me to this one, although it was way too expensive at the time, the postage cost more than the kit! Fortunately shopping around revealed a much more reasonable deal and combined with some Christmas and Birthday money from my Dad, ne was obtained. I wonder if anyone else can guess what we are wittering on about?

As to the Ju88, more re-scribing lies ahead of me at the moment, although at least I know now that the kit will scrub OK so it won't seem quite as bad.

A thought if I can find a period publication, although maybe I will save the idea for something else I have in mind.......:hmmm:

The Ju 88 looks good so far. Like the engraving of it. Good job!

P.s.: I'm glad (rather happy), that someone deleted my last post. You could do several things, but you can leave them as well. Just for that. So, some other things or maps will do either way for the seat.

Thanks Bbudde. I am intrigued as to what got deleted.

Right, on to things plastic related. A good session on Friday was interrupted by having to go to Oxford on elderly parent duty. However I did get a good start on sorting the wings out. I always know the kit was going to need a lot doing with the wings due to concessions Airfix had made to allow working parts. To a small boy these were considered a plus point but now they just make the model look like a toy, which, of course, the kit largely was back then. I began with the underside of the port wing. Plastic plugs were inserted where there were large gaps in the wing undersides and when dry sanded smooth. Kora provide some rather nice bomb racks with their decal set so I plugged the locating holes for the kit racks. The rear undercarriage doors were tacked in place and the many gaps filled with CA glue. The forward edges of the doors were carved to a much thinner thickness along with the edges of the nacelles. The whole lot then had the living daylights sanded out of it. The rear doors will have their hinge lines re-scribed later when I have finished sorting out the underside of the starboard wing.

The working ailerons also look toy like but I have a cunning plan for fixing that which, although not 100% guaranteed not to fail, has served me well in the past. Watch this space!

Without further ado then, on to the pictures.

Thanks for looking

I started one a few years ago, bought resin exhausts etc for it, but when I moved house it got trashed sadly, so I just left it in a box, never binned it but it's too far gone for a rebuild. Would love to bring another one up to todays standards though. Watching in awe. :)

Thanks Radleigh. The transparencies could yet bring the whole project crashing down about my ears though.

Rather splendid stately progress here Martian, plus an air of gathering suspense over the breeze block.

Hello, for the transparencies I would just /definetley go with the Falcon set for that kit. They make a great difference. I would never use old Airfix transparencies as they were mostly bad scratched, distorted, broken, missing, wrong shape or not poured out fully. But that's my experience.

Ps. The post, that got deleted ( I guess by the admin) was some kind of erotic/ naked art magazine from 1940 with a naked young woman posing. But that was a bit strange for me to look at some kind of soft porno with german runen typface and nazi ideology. (Thats just not my style). Cheers

Thanks Baroness. You will have to try and guess about the breeze block for a while longer as I have a lot of researching and thinking to do before I start it, not to mention getting a load of builds off the bench to make room for it as the finished model will be rather large!

I think I agree with you, I discovered some moulding faults in the clear plastic today.

As to the picture of the magazine, it sounds just what I need for my mystery/breeze block build. I could arrange the thread so the picture was not posted here but reduce it so it could go into the model and be seen by someone viewing it close up. I wonder if you are allowed to PM me the picture?
