1/48 Revell Lunar Module (LEM) - Completed

Recommended Posts

I've finally completed the Lunar Module and reunited our heroic Astronauts with their ship.

This has been a really enjoyable build; I knew that most/all of the Lunar module kits were inaccurate, but I had no idea how bad and in particular how far out this version was and actually how much detail is missing from the kit.

I reckon that between the missing details and the dodgy panels I must have scratch built about 50% of this model. Fortunately I love scratch building and that is what made this so enjoyable. If you want to build a 1/48 Lunar Module you would be well advised to seek out the US Revell/Monogram version as you get much more in the box to start with.

And so to pictures:

Hope you've enjoyed this build as much as I did!!

Thanks for looking.

Wow, brill!

I gave up trying to make the Revel 1/48 look accurate..

I used that stick-on metal skin, which was sold many decades ago, for the panel work. These  panels look  dark or black in space as they are not reflecting anything, the look almost black. then there was the reversed lighting on the moon, the surface being bright, reflected upwards, to make the module look very strange.  this was unexpected, and some luna mission doubters thought they had used a flash!. I I used chocolate bar wrapper to coat the gold bits, (Carmac bars) .

The overal effect was sparkly as there was a lot of glint off the silver.
