Sgt.Squarehead
I really hadn't realised what a low profile the T-64 has until I saw that image with the penny.....Bet it was 'cosy' for the crew (as opposed to uninhabitable, like the T-55 & T-62).

I'm amazed at how you paint the barrels Stix. I never would have thought the paint would have taken to the metal from the brush. That's my lesson for today Hi Nigel. Yes it is pretty small. Whenever I paint metal parts, including PE, I am always a bit concerned as to how it will take the paint. So far I have been lucky! On 2/21/2017 at 0:37 AM, Cookenbacher said: That is some watchmaker's work there Stix, great stuff! Thank you Cookie. Yes some of the parts are very small - testing both my eyesight and my ability to hold them to fit them in place. I'm always reluctant to hold the tiny parts in tweezers in case they ping out into the unknown! I sometimes use a cocktail stick with the tiniest amount of Blutack on the end but I find it more difficult to get things lined up correctly. On 2/21/2017 at 3:12 AM, bianfuxia said: Fantastic work! I have spent a bit of time each evening this week cleaning up the seam lines on all the smaller parts that still need to be added so I'm hoping to get some paint onto them soon. It's the weekend tomorrow! Kind regards, Stix

I'd call it pure talent ....you are waaayyyy too kind. I think luck does play a part in what result I get sometimes. Some surfaces do take paint better than others and the luck comes into play when I have to adapt what I do when something doesn't work the first time, but then I'm lucky enough to find another way to do it. Funnily enough this metal barrel didn't take the green paint I'm using on this kit as well as the Desert Yellow went onto the barrel with the Tamiya Panther I'm building - see below. I ended up having to put several very, very thin layers (thinner than even I normally use) of the Humbrol Army Green to get it to build up smoothly. It looked pretty horrible for quite a while! Thank you John but I always think I'm taking far longer than most here on BM! ......and don't worry I always eat (probably too much) and sleep! On Saturday I carried on with this project as I discovered I had run out of one of the colours I need for the camouflage on my Tamiya Panther build. First off a photo of where I was up to with all the parts first thing on Saturday morning: Before I realised I had run out of one of the colours I need to start with for the camo on my Panther build, I did do a bit of assembling and test fitting of the Panther and thought it might be fun to take a few photos to show the size comparison of both my builds: The rest of the session on Saturday morning was taken up adding weathering to the T-64 (staining and streaks of dirt, etc) and this is where it was by the time I got to the point where all the remaining parts needed to be added: I did do more on this on Sunday but I will post the photos a bit later. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

Well Sunday flew by but I did manage to get all the remaining parts attached. I apologise in advance for the number of photos I took! I have to say it is a very nicely detailed kit. Just some final bits of weathering to add and this will be complete. I am also thinking of making a little scenic display base. Comments and suggestions welcome. PlaStix
.....and now some on my Spitfire display base - yeah I got carried away as usual: I was going to take some with the hinged armour swung outwards but it was getting to dark. Nothing at all to be sorry about - I don't keep up with loads of builds that I'm interested in following - there is so much fantastic modelling going on! Thank you for your comments. 5 hours ago, John_W said: Lovely build. What is your photo setup, as you always have such good lighting? Hi John and thank you. I take my final photos near a south facing window in an upstairs room. I have an old table (that I used to use for my model railways) which is situated at right angles to the window. I usually take the photos later in the day - preferably when the sun isn't out. I find a slightly overcast day provides better light. Models look better if the light is hitting them slightly at an angle rather than square on - a small amount of angled shadow adds to the depth of the image. I often use my Spitfire display base - which is a wooden shelf with some scatter products and grass tufts on, which has a low angled photo background, to put the models on - as I think it helps the appearance of the model if it's in a semi-real location. I also sometimes take the photos with the model on some white paper. I try to angle the paper so there are no sharp angles which give different quality of background areas. My final photos (so far) for this T-64 were all taken on white paper. I am currently making a small scenic base for this kit, which will include some figures, and I will take some more photos when it's complete. Finally I always use an iPad to take my photos. I have the models themselves fairly close to the edge of the table and I take the photos from quite a low angle, with the iPad itself mostly below the tabletop level - trying to imagine what the actual vehicle/aircraft may have looked like if photographed in real life. I do take some from above to show more detail of the model. Hope this is of some use. Please let me know if you need any more information. 2 hours ago, Hewy said: Most impressive stix, very realistic. Glynn Hi Glynn and thank you. I think a lot of that is down to the good people and Modelcollect who have prouced a finely detailed kit. So this weekend I managed to get some final dusty weathering effects applied so the actual T-64 is finished: As usual I have taken lots of photos and I have posted some in the Gallery and all the rest in the Armour RFI section at some point here. With the tank finished I started work on the base. I'm using an off-cut of 4mm MDF - I rounded the corners and angled the sides: This is what I had in mind: I then added some filler onto the surface - with a few raised areas here and there: The track marks were added with the end of a screwdriver. Next I added some Humbrol Dark Earth acrylic paint and, once it was dry, I applied some watered down PVA glue and then some scatter material - in this case: blended turf: While this was all drying I did some work on the figures I am going to use: ....and then couldn't resist trying the tank figure in place: Next it was time to add some grass tufts and bushes: .....and then the trees: I'm afraid the last few photos are a bit dark and grainy as it was well into the evening and the light wasn't great. As I mentioned above I will get some photos into the Gallery and RFI sections when I get chance and I hope to have the base finished soon. Comments and suggestions welcome. Very well done mate. Thank you very much Craig. The base is only going to be quite small and have a few figures on it but I was trying to create something similar to the box art and a photo I found of T-62 number 727. I spent part of yesterday evening cutting the Italeri figures off their bases and managed to rub some of the paint off in the process. I'm hoping to get them attached to the base in the near future so I can get some final photos taken. Kind regards, Stix
