DaveJL
Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat, marked as BuNo 159610 of VF-32 'Swordsmen' in 1989, one of a pair of Tomcats that downed two Libyan Mig-23s. The build thread is here Extras used included Quickboost seats, Steel Beach early style gun vent, Steel Beach tail stiffeners, Fightertown and Furball decals along with a resin TCS. I weathered the model heavily using a mix of washes, dry brushing and pigments as reference pictures and verbal accounts show heavily weathered machines at that time. My two Tamiya 'cats together: Comments welcome, thanks for looking. Dave

DaveJL
Thanks for the comments! 13 hours ago, Bell209 said: The shading on both looks spot-on; what technique did you use? I use Flory Models 'Dark' wash for the panel lines. To get the blotchy appearance on USN jets, I mix a drop or two with a bit of varnish and lightly overspray it. I then add some wash to a touch of the grey paint (light ghost grey in this case) and a drop of washing up liquid. I then dab it in random patterns across the airframe and around panels to give the worn and faded paint look. the trick is to wipe it off before it drys completely so gives that worn look. It's a bit difficult to make out but I think it works well.
