Im curious as to why the Island Hopping campaign is being ignored in your original post ? You point out SEAC, Carriers early in the war but nothing post 1942 ?, and the Australian/New Zealeand New Guinea campaign ? But no Island hopping by the USMC/US ARMY.

My Grandfather drove a sherman tank in many island conquests for the US Army, and was seconded to the Marines on Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Phillipine campaigns. He served with the 706th Tank Battalion and originally trained with the 4th Armored Division in the USA before his battalion was split and sent to the Pacific.

Is there a particular reason the island hopping campaign was/is excluded ? I believe its discouraging to others that may have otherwise asked to join this Group build ?

I've just read through all the posts. And i guess there is some content referring to the island hopping campaign. However the original post still doesnt reference it as either exceptable or unexceptable. So my questions still stand. Is it or is it not part of this group build ? If so i would put my hat in the ring with a M4 105 assault gun from his battalion.

This is or as the first time this type of GB was proposed. I wanted some of these GB's that in the past have not had the number to go through, like SEA Conflict and Aust. & NZ at War GB's, to have a chance. So I figured I'd try to put them into one over arching GB.

I could have made it a Pacific War GB but would have been just be a free for all, and not really in the spirit of GB's. These were just the three choices I came up for for this GB. Both of the ones I early mentioned had failed the first time even though there was some real interest in them There are heaps of other conflicts/campaigns that could have been included, the PNG lasted the entire war and is concidered one of the hardest, Guadalcanal/Soloman Is is another important one, the battle for Iwo Jima, plus heaps of important naval battles as well.

But as I mentioned in the opening thread I wanted to TRY and keep it simple and just have three conflicts including the Aust & NZ which is one I'm particularly interested in. Next time round if I decide to start another GB thread there'll be a different three. As to the carriers, there is another GB proposed that covers all those other carrier actions in the pacific and the aircraft that flew off them.

You're very welcome to join up as Co-Host, a great chance to get some experience before you host your own GB....no pressure of course! :D

glad to have you along, we still have a little way to go to get to the voting stage, but it's still early days.

Oops! Now that we're in, I was going to post to confirm that I am definitely still committed to co-hosting...forgot I'd never replied at the time. Thank you! Looking forward to it.

I've also decided on my build: USS Enterprise as she appeared at Midway, I just picked up the new 1:700 Academy kit today and it looks very nice.

Well you did actually and I have you in and you can’t back out!!! :D

sounds awesome, I was thinking we go number two in next years GB’s? I’ll let you keep the navy lot in check if you like. Think this will be one of the big GB’s of the year!

Yes, nice it got through, I will have either a RAAF A20G or Hudson for the Aussie/Kiwi section.

I would like to do do a carrier for the Carriers section, though I assume aircraft from those carriers and their escorts would also be eligible?

Just in case anyone has missed it here are the dates:

8 Sep to 30 Dec

there’s plenty of time to plan those build and decide which sub build interests you.

plus if anyone’s interested in helping to Co-Host the SEA or Aust. & NZ sub builds please feel to put your hand up.

I’m really excited about this GB as finally 2 of the subjects finally get to make it into a GB after quite a few attempts and a chance for those interested in the “Rising Sun” subjects to bring out some of those models. I’m not 100% sure what’ll bring out yet, will have to look in the stash.........and evilBay! :D

Happy to help with the Aust & NZ sub build Rich

cool thanks guys.

I'm actually half tempted to move my big Special Hobby P-39F into this build, then building one of the 1/48th ones for the STGB. Still plenty of time to think about it.

@trickyrich quick question when it says war in the Pacific what date are drawing the line at? I have a may 1945 Mustang is this to late?

Regards

Joss

well for the cutoff date we'll us 15th August 1945 which is considered VP date. As to the Mustang it all depends on who, when & where it was used, but the date is fine.

@trickyrich  Hi Rich,

So Aust and NZ in the Pacific is tempting, but can this include aircraft based in New Guinea? I was thinking of the "first blood over Rabaul" boxing of an RAAF Wirraway.

I know I have just committed to the Carriers GB (and there's a Grumman GB next year too), but I should be able to come up with something for this GB (even if another Japanese subject).

Regards,

David
