Picked mine up today and was a bit disappointing, the detail wasn't as sharp or tight as I was expecting but I expect it'll build up nicely.

I've made the Dragon P-51 1/32 and I know it's not perfect but they're not much dearer than Revell and I feel Dragon was worth paying that bit extra for.

Markey , I don't have the Revell kit , but I do have the experience of building 2 Tamiya P-51s, and more importantly , 2 Dragon Mustangs as well, and there's no way I'd be able to build that <insert a very rude word here of your choice> dragon kit again,

I lost  fingerprints sanding down the filler I had to cake on the wings to produce something that approximated  to what wartime Mustang wings looked like, not to mentions awful propeller blades, ill fitting canopies and a cockpit that didn't fit , so as far as I'm concerned Revell has a fairly low bar clear to become the 2nd best  1/32 Mustang kit

Anything that doesn't require me to fill in thousands of holes and has a correctly shaped wheel well, will be a bonus. Yes the Tamiya kit has a correct wheel well and well detailed cockpit, but it also has features which I don't need, like a full engine because I rarely leave cowling panels off as it spoils the lines, but it still has rivet detail ( however fine ) on the wings.which needs to be filled to be strictly accurate.

I am looking forward to getting a Revell Mustang, I have studied the sprue shots and I'm satisfied that it has enough detail for me, and I also like the look of the early fillet-less fin aircraft, for which there are some attractive colour schemes.

John

PS. I am still struggling with a Dragon P-51 after more than 3 years!

I have to say im really impressed with mine. No it doesnt have the finesse of the Tamiya kit but the cockpit detail is great. The fit so far has been good. I have only built the seat and floor. The control stick actually fits to the upper with and pokes through the floor. There is the usual amount of flash and cleanup for a Revell kit.  Theres lots of decals for the interior too. For the asking price I think its jaw dropping value.

I have looked at the tail to fuselage joint. It will need some careful sanding to get it to fit well but not alot.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up. I grabbed one. The importer / distributor here couldn’t tell me when they would be available nor what the RRP would be. A few clicks of the mouse and a confirmation of shipping email 10 mins later.

To me the problem of the solid exhausts ànd other areas that have to be drilled out are far outweighed by the prospect of an early finish fillet free P51D.

At last I can find a big kit at a reasonable price that can be finished as the P51D of  ex 616 Sqn RAF pilot Flt Lt Jack Clealand - who went on to be the  only New Zealander to fly in the  US 8th AF.🖒👌

Each time I look at mine I'm more impressed. I think that ( aside from the crisper moulding ) it compares well with the Tamiya version if you don't need an engine and open gun bays, and if I get to the stage when I can't drill out exhausts I'll just give up.

The new product for today is a Clear resin replacement canopy set for the 1/32 Revell P-51 Mustang. I know many have been waiting a long time, almost 2 years for me to make these available, well at long last I am happy to say it is now available to order.

https://aerocraftmodels.bigcartel.com/product/p-51-mustang-canopy-set

Improved P-51 Mustang canopy set for the Revell 1/32 kit, cast in clear polyurethane resin.
This is a totally reworked set of canopies. The master for the main canopy section was totally replaced with making use of a vac-form section, this was to remove the excessive distortion that was in the kit part. That was then carefully added to the main frame work, so that all of the internal kit parts could be added, as shown in the picture.
The screen section has been carefully had all details removed and the distortion flow marks carefully sanded out of the original and then all the frame work was reapplied.

This is the longest that any product that I have done has taken to get to the market, 2 years ago I announced it. At long last I have something that I am happy will help and please many modellers.

These clear resin parts can be buffed with normal buffing sponges and shiners sold by many vendors, nail bars and modelling companies. It is best not to use aggressive sanding materials, other tan where to assist in trimming the casting material.
Also use you favourite, clear dipping liquid to enhance clarity if desired.
I will write up a few hints and tips for a down loadable instruction soon.

Due to the size of the parts, although very light they will need to be shipped as a small parcel and not as a large envelop.

Mustang update.

Nah the project has not been burried under another layer of Griffon cowling, and is going strong actually.

In order to get decent inserts, what’s better start than a good render of the complete wing. I used profiles from factory drawings to get as close as possible.

First extract is the front wing to fuse mating. The insert is then printed and test fitted. Some tuning is needed but having the panels at the relative same height is already a small victory in my book.

Second progress area, the cockpit. The A frame and the stuff around is beginning to fill the cockpit.

I did the mechanical parts but the magnificent medic pouch you are seeing in the chitubox screenshot was done by my good friend Antonio Argudo, aka Tony Argudo Modeller ! With the quality of the fabric model, and it’s strategic position on top of the plate, I’m sure it will draw all the attention on finished models!

Next on this area, the side structures and radio racks.

Cheers

While my first scan out of the pop3 is vewy vewy shitty, lot to learn, it can already be put to use to confirm the relative wing to fuselage position, as well as the general shape of the fuselage. Wich seem to conform pretty well.

That new tech will sure help getting parts that fit to the base kit.

Some love for the Mustang.

It’s not jumping to the eye, but the whole doghouse is entirely re shaped following the fuselage scan data.

All in all, it is heading for a full fuselage print test. More to follow.
