1/48 Mosquitoes Revairfix and resin

Recommended Posts

Hello Dears,

There's are some kits at work, but as I'm wondering about the Mossies, I start a WIP for sharing and Learning...

I've started the Mossies last year, I mean 2015, a Revell one wich will become a Pathfinder from 627th Sqdn.

Very nice interior but as Cheezburger has said, try to close it ...

WP_20161225_18_51_58_Pro

Apart the seatbelts from Eduard eveything is from the box

WP_20161225_18_52_24_Pro

The pilot seat will be replaced. The bomb bay will stay open and dears, here's my first question..

The pathfinder has used special coloured bombs, Willie pete or red or green to mark the objectives.

What did those bombs look like ??? did anyone have a photo or data, maybe a bomb that seem externally normal ?? I don't know.

I read here and there that the Airfix mossie is quite right in shape and dimension, but I Wonder about the paddle blades, are they the right shape ?

For the Revell, I've spinner duplicated from Airfix and I modified the landing gear.

The Airfix one is already cutted to become a Tse Tse....

Meanwhile, this one will enter the painting room, She has been a nightmare in adjustments

WP_20161225_18_53_15_Pro

And I opened this box too... but just a slow start..

WP_20161225_17_02_36_Pro

Since my Tungsten Corsair Mk II will be finished soon, she just need a friend beside her..

Back to the mossie, I also have another foolish project, but for the next year maybe.

A Monogram mossie that will become a Sea Mosquito, (still crazy about naval aviation) and a Tamiya that will become a Corsair Mossie from the Banff wing.

Hope that I'm not too boring

Have a nice modelling time.

Sincerely.

Here are some pics

WP_20161227_13_29_29_Pro

Did I read somewhere that Bomber Command mossie never had threaded wheels ??

So I must change and not using that ones on my 627th Pathfinder ??

The resin Spinner for correcting the Revell.

WP_20161227_13_28_59_Pro

A part of what will be stuffed or added to the Airfix Mossie.

Should I find a 1/48 Mollins gun and I will reproduce that propaganda photos from WWII.

Kinda like "Look Jerry, we put this big gun in this Aircraft, you gonna love it..."

And here is the stuff for the next Mossie, the Monogram one,

WP_20161227_13_31_27_ProWP_20161227_13_31_20_Pro

The way the Monogram will be improved and modified, as you're cutting... Cut for a while:huh:

A Mosquito with torpedo and Ratog....

However the real thing has not been a complete success, the idea is crazy enough to please me

Hope that 2017 will be more quiet and sweeter than 2016.

And that the serie opened by Phil "Phylty animal" Taylor and Lemmy Killmister has been closed by Rick Parfitt and Georges Michael.

Hey Lord, you've got your count of Rock'n Pop stars for this while, save a lot for us too.

Sincerely.

Just for the fun of it,

Here's my Airfix Mosquito, I bought her long ago in a toy store, the box was already faded by the sun at the time:o

Did anyone remember ??

Hi CC

RAF Target indicator

http://abpic.co.uk/pictures/code-number/RAF 1000lb T1 Target Indicator Bomb?f=&sort=date_taken_formatted&order=asc

looks to be a blue-grey,  but the chap who'd most likely know if is Selwyn.  (or ask in WWII section)

AFAIK all RAF Mosquito's had treaded tyres, Ultracast do  3 types, I've only seen the block type on RAF Mossies

NONE of  1/48th kit  tyres are correct...

Note. RAF leather, from photos  is either black, or 'racing green' leather cloth, not mid brown.

a load of pic here of a T3 in Norway that looks unrestored

eg

8.jpg

note green 'leather'

The Monogram Mosquito is noted for having a narrow fuselage and too high fin,  the Airfix FB.VI is  rated as being the  most accurate 1/48th Mossie shape wise BTW.

Finally,. prop blades, the AIrfix  ones are decent, have a compare

Mossie%201.JPG

lots  more useful pics here

Hello Troy,

Thaaaaaank you all, Mosquito heritage center is the place where the first mosquito has been built is'nt it ?

I remember a place, behind a farm in the country side, there was a yellow mossie wich seem to have been a test bed for lot of a modification.

Look like the pic here over, but I forget the name of the place.

There was also sea Vixen and lots of The Havilland parts. And concrete moulds to form the wood plank in shape.

Nice place, I enjoyed it a lot.

Whatever thank you again

And Happy 2017 modelling year to all and both of you.

I wish you the best health and weallth and a lot of styrene parts glued together.

The place is the "de Havilland Aircraft Museum, Salisbury Hall, London Colney, Hertfordshire, AL2 1BU" on the B556 Just off the M25. It is always a joy to visit.

The 'yellow mossie' is the original prototype** W4050 which was later used as a test bed for various modifications including the two stage s/c Merlin.

The hall was where the design team for the Mosquito was moved to keep them away from a) Possible German air raids on the main DH works at Hatfield. and b ) air ministry interference.

W4050 was built in a hanger, disguised as a barn, close to the hall.

** Quite remarkable that it survived really. How many other prototypes of that vintage can you think of that are still in existance ?

Hello Dears,

Who has say that the Revell's Mosquito is a dog of a kit ???

WP_20170420_23_38_19_Pro

Let's say, it is not nice for the dogs....:suicide:

I no longer can sand the sides and it WILL NOT CLOSE :mg:

WP_20170420_23_38_31_Pro

Okay, she go back to the drawer of doom for some times.

Have a very nice day.

Sincerely.

Hello,

Don't you worry, they did'nt stay for a long time in that drawer:huh:

Since I'm like my favourites dogs, I mean the Boxer, once I bite, I did'nt let loose.

My main concern is about the transparencies and their fitting, I can no longer trim in the sides since there will no place for the pilot's seat :penguin:

Next time, I'll be focused on the Tse Tse, my friend has given some good 1/48 plans :D

I will remain silent for some days since my evening work week start on sunday

And then, I'll  get a surgery, 11 teeth and roots plus scrubbing the jawbone, the doctor tell me "That I will remember that one"

Have a very nice day.

Sincerely.

Having just wrestled this kit into submission I can confirm that you have to remove a lot of material from the interior bulkheads and floor to get the fuselage halves to fit. It's like they were designed by two different teams!

The rest of the kit isn't much better. I'm certainly glad it's done with and in future the Tamiya kit will be my mossie of choice!

39022620274_31b083ce92_b.jpg

39022620264_93a3871cc2_b.jpg

Only made with sprue !!

So nice and tidy ! I'm almost sad to use it...

Too thin to be copied in resin...

So Thank Pierre

Sincerely.

Hello Dears,

Really, it's sad ! a well engineered interior with good and crisp details and then :bristow:

WP_20180712_21_14_55_Pro

A mistake so Fonderie from Revell !! Ach deutschland ist nicht meer Deutschland !!

The rear part of the fuselage suffer from that same problem !! :raincloud:

WP_20180712_21_16_11_Pro

But I will tame her !! Little by little, bits by bits !!

Thanks for watching !

I started the interior of the Tse Tse too !

Sincerely.

Hello Dears,

What to do when a kit that did'nt fit too well ???

I mean when your name is CC ???

Add resin parts, that will just be worst !!

WP_20190511_22_09_06_Pro

The resin seat is far better than the revell offering...

Then the Revell seat jam the fuselage… So may be a kind of an improvement !!

Let's see it

Have a great Sunday modelling !!

Sincerely.

The prototype NA-73X Mustang still exists in the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, WI but I would be hard pressed to think of any other allied aircraft prototypes that exist.

OTOH, there are a fair number of German and Japanese prototypes extant:

J7W1 Shinden

Götha Ho 229

Nakajima J9N Kikka

Hello Dears,

Hey look who's back from the shelf of doom...

IMG_20200413_215445

Since the Skyknight is shooting his own last munitions on me, It's time to reopen a 🤬🤬🤬 Thread !!

I add some wiring on the back of the dashboard, Just to show that there is someting on....

Sorry for the rivet counters...

IMG_20200413_230854

Now, in order to slow down the boringness, I work on the Airfix one...

Erasing the poor throttle quadrant...

IMG_20200413_230031

Aaaand, It look better that way, But sorry, I must look where this resin part is coming from..

IMG_20200413_230804

Easter is always a day in which I praise the Kiwis !!

IMG_20200413_182912

For their tasty and delicious lamb !!

I hope that you've had a good easter too... Even in these troubled days !!

Take care Gents !!

Hello Dears,

Well this one thread is also crying for some bench time...

But I must confess that this :boxing:Revell kit is not a fine one...

Here we are....

IMG_20210330_233718

Almost buttoned up...

Then, working on the 2nd one will maybe re-spark the Mojo...

IMG_20210330_234751

Ooooold Airfix kit from the '70s....

Saying that the mojo will may be re-sparked ???

Sink marks...

IMG_20210330_235426

Old mojo is now buried a bit deeper...:hanging:

Meanwhile, I read this book...

IMG_20210328_011718

I really enjoyed it even if the cover is erroneous....

Cleaning the bench room is a pain....

I feel envious to start a thread about 4 or 5 Vampires and converions....

Or a pair of Fulmars... Or Sabres...

Well stay safe Gents !!

And have an happy modelling time !!

Sincerely.
