F1 Insider
Latest build and a commission no less. I say commission....my missus asked me to build a VW Camper to match the newly decorated living room where it will then be displayed. Anyway, progress so far. Bodywork in Vauxhall Mustard Yellow with cream two-tone... Interior is two-tone cream and brown... Cab so far... The roof... And the wheels... Being built box stock as if it were new/restored. shood23
Very nice the colours go really nicely together. I made one of these in the summer and I can see you are not far from the most annoying part of this kit, the windows, for me they took forever as there are so many of them. F1 Insider
Done a little more on the bus tonight... First on the list was the windows, all 25 of them. All but two needed masking off in order to paint the rubber seals... My my track record with window masking has been chequered to say the least so I let loose with the rattle can with a fair amount of trepidation.... I needn't have worried unduly, I think they turned out ok. I think it helped that I had a spare set of windows from when I did my Ratmeister van, which came with a full set of windows despite being a panel van, which meant I knew I had a second crack at it if any when wrong. I could help but do a partial mock up... Thanks for looking. As always comments, critique and questions welcome. F1 Insider
From this experience the hardest part of the windows is the masking and even that is a piece of p......., it's just there are loads of them
bhouse
Very neat work on those windows. Any special techniques or just patience and loads of making tape?

Exactly that, patience. Just for anyone who is not familiar or wants to know, this is what I did: 1, Mask the surface to be painted, making sure there is tape overhanging the edges. 2, Press a cocktail stick into the recess/lip. This makes sure the tape is stuck down properly and shows the lip reveal better. 3, Draw a sharp scalpel blade around the edge you have defined using the cocktail stick method and remove excess tape. 4, Mask the back of the windows (don't need to worry about removing excess here. Spray directly from above in 2/3 light coats.
Alan R
I have this kit as well. I'm planning to build it alongside the Tamiya 1966 (?) Beetle. I'll follow this for inspiration, if you don't mind.

F1 Insider
Pretty much done on this now. Finished painting of the bumpers and exhaust... Im calling this one done now. I should point out that I haven't done the engine, for two reasons. One, I wasn't sure I was going to include it as it was going to be covered and in a display case anyway and two, I balls'd up painting the casing! The fit on this particular kit is shocking. I don't think it's a Revell issue (the fit on my Ratmeister was perfect), I've had this kit for ages, half built (it was going to be a baby blue, Cali, custom style) for a couple of years and I think it's warped slightly and as such the doors don't quite shut properly. im not that worried, as I've said before, it's going in a display case and the plan was to have the doors open anyway. Proper pictures to follow, off've a proper camera. Thanks for looking.
