That F-100 is simply spectacular! The NMF is superb, I like the burnt metal effects near the exhaust very much. How did you do it? Did you use Alclad?

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. The finish is indeed Alclad for the main airframe. Polished Aluminium, semi matte Aluminium and some Mr Colour SM SS all on a polished base of Alclad gloss black primer.

The only downside being the Polished Aluminium is quite soft and doesn't bear handling that well.

The rear panels are in MR C SM Ti with heat effects using Tamiya clear enamels and Alclad Jet exhaust

Thanks for the info.  Just a few additional questions: did you apply the decals directly on the metal paints or did you use a gloss coat?  Did you use decal solutions?  Did you apply any varnish coat in the end?

I still have to build a NMF aircraft with different shades of metal, so I'd like to know the best way to preserve the metal shades and applying  the decals properly.

Thanks again.

Hi,

on this build the decals are are directly applied to the paint. They are settled with microsol and set.

The P 51 is painted in Tamiya AS-12. Which is gloss coated with x-22 Decals applied and sealed and then a coat of semi gloss made from Tamiya x-22 and Tamiya Matt varnish all thinned with lacquer thinners.

I've tried lots of different ways of doing NMF my current favourite is using Gunze Super Metallics.

Thanks for the kind offer,  Plasto. I'll certainly get back to you some time in 2017, as I intend to build a P-51D in NMF

Cheers

Lovely collection there. Your finishing skills are exemplary with nicely judged weathering effects. Although not a "tankie" myself, I am particularly fond of that A7V "Cyklop" - beautifully done in that scale.
