He retired, I believe. Quite literally the end of an era, and seeing photos of him and a friend clearing out and destroying old stock was quite difficult to take... he changed the hobby for everyone, in one way or another.

Certainly changed it for me.

My first piece of ‘proper modelling’ was as a kid back in the early eighties, after I picked up a copy of The Verlinden Way (cost me a fair wedge of my pocket money!).

I dry-brushed a Tamiya halftrack to within an inch of its life, and was pleased as punch that I was now a ‘real modeller’.

 

I think my first bit of aftermarket was also Verlinden, and this cheap hobby has cost a fortune ever since....

Along with Shep Paine  changed my attitude and approach to the hobby , looked thru one of his books not long ago the advice was still good

I heard this some time ago and yes - he certainly changed my modelling - especially his book 'On Plastic Wings'. Still one of my favourites. 

Guess the competitions caught up - and overtook - him.

Cut my modelling teeth on VP stuff , My first intro to resin photoetch and figures !

He inspired me to learn how to sculpt and the way my modelling changed by reading his books was a quantum leap in a very short time  .

Mr Verlinden I salute you  Sir !
