John Laidlaw
He retired, I believe. Quite literally the end of an era, and seeing photos of him and a friend clearing out and destroying old stock was quite difficult to take... he changed the hobby for everyone, in one way or another.
LotusArenco
54 minutes ago, John Laidlaw said: he changed the hobby for everyone Certainly changed it for me. My first piece of ‘proper modelling’ was as a kid back in the early eighties, after I picked up a copy of The Verlinden Way (cost me a fair wedge of my pocket money!). I dry-brushed a Tamiya halftrack to within an inch of its life, and was pleased as punch that I was now a ‘real modeller’. I think my first bit of aftermarket was also Verlinden, and this cheap hobby has cost a fortune ever since.... Mart

HansReggelsen
I heard this some time ago and yes - he certainly changed my modelling - especially his book 'On Plastic Wings'. Still one of my favourites. Guess the competitions caught up - and overtook - him. Cheers Hans J
sonofjim
Cut my modelling teeth on VP stuff , My first intro to resin photoetch and figures ! He inspired me to learn how to sculpt and the way my modelling changed by reading his books was a quantum leap in a very short time . Mr Verlinden I salute you Sir !
