Such a great idea for a display. This is going to be an extremely impressive model once finished!

Little bit more progress;

Couldn't resist a test fit, you can see why they extended this dock!;

Bow structure finished;

Steps added, need a bit of blending on the sides, and the walls of the base built up;

Water level added at the aft end and then cartridge paper pasted on top to give some texture;

Dry dock gate and the basin end walls next and the main structure will be finished.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers

Wow.........

I love battleships, I've spent a large part of my life diving on their wrecks.  I just wish I had the level of your skill to build one and do it justice.

Amazing workmanship Nick :clap:

Would be good it there were realistic 1/350 naval crew/wharfies available. Just helps to give a sense of scale.

I've got some figures and bits and bobs to go on. The North Star crew figures are the best I've found so far.

Cheers

Little bit more progress;

Dock gate finished;

and a rough fill in around the dock using plaster repair filler. I've used this before (on walls in the house) and it can shrink a bit, so I'll put a final fill on when it's dry.

  • 2 weeks later...

Crawling towards the finish line with the dry dock;

Infill complete, just needs a sand. The parallel lines are for railway tracks, from the pics there are available at this period there were rail tracks near the docks, the actual positioning on the model is a bit of guess work.;

First coats of dock colour;

The irresistible dry fit;

And the dry dock blocks fitted, thanks again Dave Swindell for the advise and pointers;

And these are the railways freight cars.

Great work mate.

Cheers Kris.

Thought I'd have a go at weathering with oils, going for a sandstone-ish look;

And a bit of work on the dock gate;

Surrounding dockside is a base of German Grey with various brown oils blended in;

Top view with water painted - ready to start adding the details;
