Sounds as though you may have a bit of a stash there Jaime, you are very welcome.

Now, which will you build?

I have at least seven options.  Maybe an Albatross D.V or a Nieuport 17. This could also be a good excuse to build my only Wingnuts Wings Albatross D.Va.

Cheers

Jaime

Could I play please?

I'm usually a WWII Fleet Air Arm guy but as my Great Grandad joined 4th Field Company RE in 1915, served with the London Division outside Ypres in 1916, Somme 1916 (attack on High Wood) and then back to Ypres and at some point transferred to 90th Division ending up on the Rhine in Feb 1919 - I thought I'd give it a shot.

So to that end I have bought the Masterbox (?) Somme British Infantry set and thought I might have a crack...

When do we start?  When do we finish (I've never done a GB)...

You are very welcome Grey Beema, though you may need to be a little patient for the GB to start.

We'll need thirty people to sign up for the build by November 2017, and then to enter a poll for selection to go ahead in 2018.  Given that we have 19 members signed up in less than a month, I am quietly hopeful that we'll get our 30 members in time.

If I recall correctly, 6 builds will go through from the poll for the 2018 GBs. As to dates, that will be for negotiation if we pass the poll, then builds seem to be running at about four months. BUT we still have to reach the poll, pass that, and fit in with other GBs.

As to your choice of subject, your Great Grandfather's war record sounds excellent and a few infantry or engineers will be  very much to the point here.

Sorry for being so long winded ....

P.S. There's nothing to s top you joining a 2017 GB, check out the calendar on the Future Group builds page, and join an appropriate build (sorry, I'm on my iPad so no links :( )

Tank or Armoured car, I've got a few of each in the stash.....Presumably the war on the Russian front (prior to 1917) would be acceptable?  :hmmm:

Yes, very!  Equipment from any country involved in the Great War, 1914-1918.

I would be up for this GB. My grandfather was in the Highland Light Infantry and fought at the Somme. So although I won't be doing any figures, I have some resin Sea Planes in the stash, including a Campania, so a torpedoe carrying biplane could be an option.

  • 2 months later...

I have been thinking about this all week, thanks to @JackG for pointing me here :).

Last weekend, for my birthday, I went to the Australian War Memorial, finding my own name there:

No, it's not 'Tiger' ;), it's the A. J. Carnell chap.

It's there twice to be honest, but only one, as far as I can ascertain, is related (my grandfather's uncle).

Third Australian Infantry Batallion. They were a busy lot; at the Gallipoli landings, Lone Pine (hell on earth), Egypt, later Pozieres, Ypres, more. The family name originated from Normandy. This poor chap didn't make it back that far.

I would like to do something related to Lone Pine.

I don't normally do figures so it will push me quite a bit :).

I have this huge diorama at the AWM to help me find inspiration.

It is incredible, so realistic, but to be honest I found it quite saddening and somewhat harrowing to view.

Given that I don't know much about figures, I wondered if anyone knows if this set by Revell would be good?

They do need all need remembering, I hope this one goes through :thumbsup2: .

All best regards

Hello @TonyTiger66, and welcome

I do agree!

I have not seen any ANZAC figures IRL ...

Revell, this review might help (Google translation from German) https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.kitreviewsonline.de/anzac-infantry-von-revell-im-massstab-135/&prev=search

There are a few other options for WWI ANZAC infantry:

ICM http://www.icm.com.ua/news/393-anzac-infantry-1915-4-figures.html

Callsign http://www.callsignmodels.com/index.htm, specialise in Austrailian subjects - these are shown as available in the UK from Historex Agents, but I couldn't see them on Callsign's own website

In 1/72 HaT Industrie offer two sets of WWI Anzacs

I hope this helps

Many thanks Robert that helps a lot :). I'm currently living in Canberra, so I can examine the big diorama at the museum a lot.

The Revell set, it seems, is the ICM set reboxed. The poses are a bit 'out' for the underground hand to hand combat at Lone Pine, but they do include a few of the main weapons used: Shovels .

True. Shovels, knives, clubs and bayonets. For days, in 40° heat. In the dark :o. No room to turn with rifles.

So it looks like I'll have to learn how to do 'plastic surgery' on the figures too.

Like you, I can't see the figures on the Combat Models website; they look very nice.

Fingers crossed we get over 30 and through the poll to glory :).

Best regards

TonyT

It does look like a good reference source, it is good that you have it availabe

Drop Callsign a note.  Their website is out of date (for example Historex Agents are not listed as one of their resellers), so, they may have a few left in stock, or know a retailer who does have stocks.

If you are into plastic surgery, take a look at Hornet Models heads.

Did the Australian slouch hat change between WW1 and WWII?  If not, you may be able to use Hornet Model's heads (HAH02 ?) on British WW1 types as Australians ...
