EXPAL BRP-250 Bomb (48049)

1:48 SBS Model

Our friends at SBS have been quiet this last year due to various reasons, but they were present and Scale ModelWorld and in good spirits, with some new products, this being one of them.  The BRP-250 bomb was widely hung from Spanish aircraft during the Cold War, as well as from Argentinian and other Allied nations.  They are free-fall bombs that are fin stabilised by a quartet to the rear of the streamlined body, and fitted with a short delayed fuse at the front.  They are often seen loaded on Mirage 5, A-4 Skyhawk, Mirage F.1 and Super Etendards wearing various colour schemes.

This set contains two of the bombs, mastered by Antarki Models from Peru, and as well as the resin bomb bodies, there is also a small fret of Photo-Etch (PE) brass containing the fins for the rear.  The bombs are attached to a single moulding stub at the rear, which is flat on the real thing, so shouldn't be too hard to remove and clean up.  The fins fit into grooves down the side of the body, and must be aligned by eye, which isn't difficult in the real-world from experience.  Detail on the bomb is excellent, having recessed panel lines and a nicely rendered fuse, which should look good under a coat of paint.  Check your references for the correct colours and banding, as this different between operators and time periods.

Available soon from all good model shops.
