Mrs PlaStix
I did say that I was going to try something other than dinosaurs... Since Mr P has got tanks and planes covered I thought I'd have a go at something a bit different. I've had the Skoda Turtle for ages, but don't want to build it before I've got a bit of practise in first! I saw this kit and loved it, so did Mr P- but I called dibs, anyway he has too many GBs on the go... The Box art was appealing: There weren't too many parts for a novice: Sprue A Sprue B Close up 1 Close up 2 The instructions were fairly clear (?) There weren't too many decals and stickers, but there was a shiny one... Information sheet authentic spot deliberate mistake First parts together More parts added Most importantly it wasn't going to be too difficult to paint grey, more grey and rust/mud... I used base paint of Humbrol 106 Matt Ocean Grey then dry-brushed with a lightened version of same I then took quite a long break when other things became more important. This weekend I've got around to doing some more work on it and it's coming along reasonably okay... Levers, etc added Please be gentle with me as it's my first attempt at something that people can still remember and that real photographs of it exist! Dinosaurs are much easier in that respect! (As was the Mary Rose!!! Edited November 26, 2016 by Mrs PlaStix

I'm actually really enjoying building this, once I got over my total lack of mechanical knowledge!
Rob G
It's a grand wee kit of a quite important vehicle, and you're doing a bang-up job of it. Looking forward to when you start to add the mud. If ever you're in Japan, Komatsu have a restored one in the main area of their head office...
Sgt.Squarehead
Excellent stuff.....I heartily approve! I've got a few Japanese AFV references stashed on my PC, so I'll have a look through and PM you if there's anything useful (not massively optimistic though TBH).
Mrs PlaStix
Cheers Sarge! I've decided that if you can't beat 'em you'd better join 'em! I've still got several Dinosaurs left in the stash so I haven't given up on them entirely... Don't think I will be building any planes though, too difficult for me.
Sgt.Squarehead
'Wingy-Things' are highly overrated in my opinion.....They take up far too much space (both on forums and on your shelves).
giemme
There, you've been bitten by the AFV bug, and I blame Stix for that! I hope you enjoy this Ciao
sonofjim
Great job Mrs P , You'll get a lot of satisfaction out of AFV's and earthmovers . You can eventually go all out with weathering when you feel more comfortable , don't be too bothered about mechanical knowledge and colours just enjoy! Keep up the good work .

Cheers Jim, thanks for looking in I figured that this was an ideal starter kit as it definitely isn't supposed to be pristine, mirror finished and elegant! 2 hours ago, giemme said: There, you've been bitten by the AFV bug, and I blame Stix for that! Mrs PlaStix
This weekend I finally got around to doing a little more, in the gap I managed to forget which of the many shades of grey there are and had to repaint several parts...then dry brush, put a targeted wash of anthracite on the recessed bits followed by more dry brushing... I got to put the seat and tank together and fit them to the body. - the fit of the parts is amazing! The detailing is excellent, considering how tiny it really is. Mrs PlaStix
Just to give you a point of reference: At least it won't take up as much space as the Brachiosaurus diorama! Edited November 28, 2016 by Mrs PlaStix

Cheers Rob, I've been doing a spot of research and as you say it is quite important, considering its size. Really looking forward to getting stuck in with the mud - Stix has plenty to spare... jrlx
Hi Mrs P, This is quite an interesting deviation from your dinosaur themes But it's turning out beautifully with your usual attention to detail. The dry brushing effects are very good! Cheers Jaime

Stix thought it would give some approximation - I thought people could see the size of the kitchen roll behind it and work out how small it is... I was quite surprised when the kit arrived but small is beautiful!!

jrlx
Good move, Mrs P. The important thing is always to learn something new with a build or consolidate techniques tried before. Cheers Jaime

Sgt.Squarehead
Looking good, the comparison with the 50p piece is a revelation, I genuinely thought it was rather larger. You could try reversing the normal edge-highlighting/dry-brushing technique here and there, use a shade just a little darker than your basecoat, possibly adding just a tad of brown and work very sparingly on any edges and/or details that might be subject to wear.....Done carefully and selectively this should give the impression of small areas of bare metal peeping through the paint.
