DMC
Hi CC Missed this one (hard to keep up with your builds) first time around but pleased to see it back up. I’m currently into a recon phase and early Mustangs fit right in. I have a Monogram “B” that I’d like to convert but it’ll have to get in the queue as I need to get on with my other builds. Interesting pics in this link: https://retromechanix.com/early-photo-reconnaissance-p-51-mustang-1943/ Cheers Dennis
Biggles87
Hi CC, just caught up again. Am I right in thinking that your Mk 1A is going to be finished in the MTO scheme but with RAF markings? One of the marking options for the Hobbycraft 1/32 kit is for a USAAF F-6A on loan to the RAF in Tunisia, and I am seriously considering this for my Mk 1A. If I do decide on this scheme your post on the camera fitting will be especially helpful as I believe that the mount and camera were different to those used on RAF aircraft. Cheers John

Precisely !! AFAIK this camera mounting stays the same, Whatever, I used the British one on my Kit. Congratulations for your best guess ! One think to be carefull about is the armour plate behind the seat... Seemingly there was noy such a plate on USAAC aircraft but the Brits add it when the Mustang is entering the british management. Now, I must check my doc and see if the F-6 is based on a Mustang I or a Mustang II. The wing arrangement is slightly different. Given the data at hand, there xere 6 P-51 or Mustang Ia loaned to 225th Sqdn in Tunisia. They were not repainted thoroughly... Hence that unusual painting … Faded OD and Neutral grey + Mid stone 🤪 Thanks for the kind words ! There will be another Brit pony in a few weeks Month ??? I Don't know yet ! Sincerely. Biggles87
Hi CC, I also have the Allison Mustang Walk Around book and have looked at the pictures camera and fitting. Also among my Mustang references I have a series of books called Classic Aircraft, their history and how to model them which were published in the 1970s to compliment the Airfix 1/24th scale 'super kits'. The Mustang book has a chapter on converting the D model to a B or C and includes this picture of the camera and mount. As you can see there seems to be quite a difference between the RAF and USAAF versions. Hope you might find this interesting. Thanks for the tip, now I worry about my 225th Mustang ??? 😖 Whatever it's a bit late, the next one is undoubtly the british mounting... Oh dear, I may be screwed up…. Unless I find a pic of the time being, I will remain uneasy... Sincerely. CC
Biggles87
Sorry to cause you any doubt, but I think you will be OK with the camera and mount you have fitted as the aircraft in question were on loan from the USAAF. This is the approach I am taking with my Mk 1A unless I can find a photo which shows different. Cheers John
