Dr_Fester
After some advice guys. I have to repaint a japanese Ho-Ni for a friend in 3 colour camo and hope you can help with the colours I need. It should look something like this when finished:- Any idea what the 3 colours I need, preferably Tamiya but open to other options. I bought the Vallejo early IJA set but none of them seem to match the light colour, nearer Tamiya Buff or Desert Yellow really. Any help appreciated. Mike Starmer
What your model shows is what for many years has been the generally accepted scheme as the standard IJA scheme for armoured vehicles. However this is not so. By 1945 when this Ho-Ni was in service the colours were as follows: Base colour - Grass; close to FS34096. Tamiya XF-67 is nearest. Patch colour - Earth; close to FS37056. XF-10 with 10% black is nearest. Patch colour - Khak; close to FS30145. XF-59 with 20% XF- 52 is the best guess for me. The irregular patches with rounded edges, not ragged as shown, were applied in large areas over the base colour. no more than two of each colour on one side is the best I can describe it. If you use Humbrols then these are more accurate. Base colour - Grass. 6+ H116 + 3 x H117 +2 x H102. Patch colour Earth 3 x H33 + 2 x H153. Patch colour - Khaki 2 x H186 + 1 x H84.
