1/72 Academy Canadian F/A-18a

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

Here's my recently completed 1/72 F/A-18a in a Canadian finish.
Built OOB as a test bed for some of the great techniques I've found here on the boards. it was great way to get back into the hobby after a long break.
Academy's kit was perfect for a newbie like me.

Previously only building amour, I've now been bitten by the aircraft bug :)
Hope you like it.

Well mate, if you are a newbie, I'm the next pope and you may kiss my ring!

Those two builds are exceptional!

:) Yep, first completed aircraft. Was a real struggle to try keep the weathering down to a minimum for me as opposed to the muddy, dirty and grime ridden armour I used to build.

I really like your weathering style. Would love to read about how it is done.

Will do my best to document things during my F-14b build.

Damn nice looking CF-18.  What did you use for the camouflage? Those colours are spot on!

Colours actually came about by mistake.
Instructions called for Grayish Blue H33 (Hobby Color) and I thought I had that in my stash when picking up the paints, only to find that I had Blue Gray (H337)when I got home, which is an entirely different shade :(
So after looking at reference photos I tried matching the shade by sight by lightening the paint with white and light grey. Lightened up a few panels and after the wash seemed to compare well to the photos I had.

Thanks again.
