seems that I need to do something about the prop, ad it fly with uncuffed  Hamilton Standards.... the kit only has cuffed and Aero versions included :(

I started work :)

no glue yet, but fit in very good! great kit!

That's fitting together very nicely.

Thank you for sharing the link to the Warbirds thread. That was an interesting diversion and a good source of detail images of certain parts of the aircraft.

vertical stabs glued, and did some painting last night:

so the cockpit was done in flat black as seems to be the case in the real aircraft. The IP looks like light wood....

some more work done last night!

these small props move quite fast it seems! :)

quick photos with the mobile of the assembly:,

and my cockpit achievements;)

some mods were necessary, as the IP  layout was changed obviously becoming a warbird...

at least it is different to what Tamiya provides :)

  • Ultracast uncuffed hamilton Standards,
  • a new seat :),
  • Eduard wheels with diamond thread
  • Quickboost shrouded exhaust
  • & some Alclad II (premiere!!!, lets investigate on how to properly use it first....),

triples the original kit prize though.....

She is coming along nice. The kit is beautifully engineered isn't it.

I found quickboost exhaust a fair bit smaller than the kit parts. Will be interesting to see how you find them. Here's a few photos to show what i mean.

But the Eduard wheels are nice though ;)

Look forward to how this one turns out:popcorn:

Hi Joss,

looks a bit small, yes... Maybe i will stick to the kit ones then... I was really doubting when I ordered them but more for "is it really neccesary"  than for will they be suitable at all :(

thanks for your input though!

and yes, the Tamiya Mustang is really really nice! wonder why everybody is crying for a new one... and Airfix and Meng  and maybe Eduard actually producing one?!

Sorry to be a pain, wish i could have pointed it out sooner!! They're nice exhaust but just abit smaller maybe some plastic card could pack them out?

I'm quite looking forwards to an Eduard model personally

never shoot the messenger!

I could also have asked a bit sooner ;)

It should actually arrive this week, I have done worse than not using an aftermarked piece in the end ;) maybe it will fit the Eduard model

could not resist last night and started to dry-fit my new possessings ;)

1st:

exhausts:

mine Quickboost ones are a the same as Joss's I'd say. a bit short. Plastic card or filler will solve this problem I guess!  Detail is slightly better, as the tubes are hollowed out at the front. could also be done manually with a drill bit of course.

They seem to be a bit more inclined downwards.

I am not sure how much of the shroud I should cut away, because the quickboost examples stick out much more than the kit ones....

i really like the new seat

20161124_223843_1_zpsoz43ueee.jpg

did not know before how wrong the plastic one was for "my"  bird ;)

looks a lot better apart from that

last but not least,

the new Hamilton Standard cuffless props:

thanks for watching or even comments!

Cheers,

Werner

If I look at this link, WWII  P51's were Zinc Chromate Green:

In the meantime I did find a picture (in my link way above) and this shows that this plane is (was at time of photo ;) )  painted black nowadays

  • 2 weeks later...

an overdue update:

painting of the non polished surfaces:

20161210_150354_1_zpsgphhfqvf.jpg

flat black looking quite shiny here:

20161210_152702_1_1_zps3dzqjkqz.jpg

preparation for the always nasty painting of white....

20161211_192705_1_zpsrnkwuiuj.jpg

and after several attempts and layers:

any experience out there regarding the masking of ALCALD II?

had some problems with the base coat for the Alclad....

after some trial and error, I used a nail polisher stick in order to bring some gloss/shine to the plane... not perfect and maybe no satisfactorily but that is how it is now ;)

shot a layer of Alclad Polished Aluminium  last night

not all coverd perfectly yet, but you may get the idea ....
