More on Airfix 2017

Workbench on the Me262 says it's for early 2017. Wonder if they'll get around to the Starfighter, loved the boxart of a Luftwaffe F-104 in the splinter scheme.

As for early 2017 releases, I seem to recall that the 1/48 PR XIX was announced Nov/Dec and available in the following January, so who knows (apart from Airfix of course) what we might or not see in 2017 Q1.

As a viable and very experienced company I will be very surprised that we don't see any new releases in 2017 Q1, they will of course stagger them throughout the year. (Some of course end up going to the right, such as the B17 which was originally down for late August).

Wonder if there will be a Work bench Blog this week.

Have these been confirmed yet?

Pictures in the 2017 calendar given with the recent Airfix Modellers World would certainly suggest that.

After seeing the upcoming Phantom I pointed out to the Airfix team at Telford that there are other Museums other than Yeovilton, Duxford and Hendon to do their research in.

Can we lock them up for a night in the 'experimentals' and adjoining' hangars at Cosford to seek inspiration?

YESSSS!  A Bristol 188.

I'm assuming that any catalogue for next year may be a bit on the thin side, considering the recent announcement by Hannants to them (by Airfix) of "..over 100 kits being dropped from the current range..." and thus now retailing as Limited Availability on the former's site? I can't give a linky for this as it was announced via email but I'm sure some of you may also have seen it?

EDIT: Hannants page for this

https://www.hannants.co.uk/manufacturer/airfix/products?search_direction=asc&product_category_id=108

There are actually 74 products on that list that are in the current (2016) range, the remainder do not appear in the catalogue

Hannants only sent out an email informing it's customers of Airfix's intentions a couple of weeks ago, so presumably will not appear in the new catalogue. I'd guess that some of the New Tool kits on that list may reappear with different markings or as sub-types, which is a good thing (Hasegawa specialise in that!) either next year or so

If you analyse the list, all the 'new tooling' aircraft listed were first issued at least 3 years ago and have most probably amortised their Capital investment. The biggest hits are in the 1/76 AFV range with many ancient kits being withdrawn. Likewise quite a few figure sets as these probably are slow movers. Still, the 2017 catalogue should make interesting reading.

All 1/76 and 1/32 figures have been withdrawn, as too have all 1/76 and 1/72 military vehicles, with the exception of the USAAF and RAF bomber resupply sets.

That's not quite right. A01709, A01711, A01716, A01718, A01726/7/8/9, A01731/2, A01750/1 and A01753 are in this year's catalogue and are not on Hannants list - or maybe you have other information. I haven't looked at the 1/32 figures but I suspect there are some there too.

Don't forget T-7 is a Mode Shop owner; the Hornby Rep has probably told him what's not going to be available next year

Yes the Phantom FG1 workbench on Saturday was a special, they said they will cover it in more details on this Fridays Workbench, along with feedback from SMW and quite probably another announcement as they don't have that many Workbench slots left in the year

As the Phantom was announced at Telford l would think that it is Airfix star release for 2017 so will be very surprised (hopefully) if anything will supercede it.

Asking for a 1/48 Griffon Spit at the Telford desk I got the promising answer that it is on the horizon, maybe something for an Airfix 2018 thread.....

At last, a Spitfire Mk. 21! ;)

Don't get ahead of yourselves, that could just mean reissue of the Spiftire XII, 19 or 22.

I would suggest though if it were to be a new Griffon Spitfire then a low-back XIV has the most mileage...

I went low back simply because it provides more markings opportunities and thus higher potential sales

Nope just an in-depth focus on the Phantom, which is quite interesting

I do indeed. I use the Airfix 2016 revised order form as issued by Hornby Hobbies to their trade customers. I think that's reliable enough.

I think the days of kids buying plastic toy soldiers has died out and can understand the reason behind it
