I'm glad this kit is coming for those who model in 1/32...but how about downsizing it to 1/48?  Been waiting/hoping for a UN-marked J-29 for years now...had hoped Pilot Replicas would be on the case but, alas, that's apparently not going to happen.  So you get a :) for all the lucky 1/32 scale modellers out there...but a :( for me personally (PLEASE will someone release this version of the Tunnan in 1/48 that doesn't require major nasal surgery to look like a J-29).

And a bit funny is that this individual was from F 9 wing in Gothenburg on the Swedish West Coast where both snow and mountains are far, far away. :) But who cares? A Tunnan in 1/32 is always welcome.

New sprues pics incl. fuselage, canopy etc. (from J-29F as J-29B has different low rear fuselage and wings) & decals (J-29F & B).

And it seems that FLY got the underbelly profile right as well – dead straight, no gentle curves there:

j-29_title.jpg

Please note that the bottom of the engine cover is also straight in profile, with only the afterburner cover being (maybe) slightly curved at the joint with the engine cover.

This aspect of the utilitarian design of the Flting Barrel has often been misunderstood by draughtsmen (including Saab's own!) and kit mould designers.

By cross-kitting the afterburning F (Filip) wings with the dogtooth with the non-afterburning B (Bertil) version, it should be possible to make an E (Erik) but above all an S 29C camera carrying reconnaissance version – if sombody can come up with a camera nose. Maybe Maestro Models?

The S 29C played a crucial role in Sweden's low-level mapping of Warzaw Pact harbours and missile bases in top secret photo ops in the early autumn of 1958. The Recce Barrel also had a critical part in the success of the Swedish F 22 UN operations during the Congo war in 1962.

So, a camera nose? Somebody, please?

Kind regards,

Joachim
