banzaiduke Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Got a bit of a poser here (well ,it is for me!) Instructions are telling me to put together x98 links of track for each run,Fair enough but the idler wheel (?) at the rear has no fixed position so how are the two supposed to position properly if nothing has an exact location fix?
JackG Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 On the real vehicles, the idler was positional to adjust for track sag. You can go two ways with the build: 1.) Look at period photos to get an idea of the angle the idler is set at, and glue in place. Build track around this setting, may use more or less than the required number of links. 2.) Construct links at the required number (98), and glue on idler afterwards and adjust angle to track tension. This latter method may be more beneficial if you wish to paint the tracks while still off of the vehicle. regards, Jack 1
Ozzy Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Here goes, the panzer IV's had a little sag on the top of the tracks which go along the return rollers, having a loose rear idler for fitting. Allows the modeller to recreate the sag then move the idler into position to take up any slack, then a little glue on the idler and job done. hope this helps ozzy
