corsaircorp
Hello everybody, Here's another one of my long term model. As a great fan on naval Aviation, I have been very happy to catch an exemplary of the Douglas F3D-2 Skyknight. The Korean conflict is one my big interest and a Skyknight painted in black (Before Jagger sing it) is "de rigueur" for me. Czeck Master kit, had reproduced some rarities and this is multi media kits plastic and resin and... Short run The fuselage were 2 bananas, I worked with vapor (over the kettle to tell the Truth) and I've been able to rectify this a bit. So, I'm glad but including the engines cowlings on the fuselage is far more than Rock'n Roll, Norwegian black metal in fact. Reshaping with vapor, cooling my fingers and go again. Making this time and again, that turn almost right today. At first, the fusealge were joining just in the middle and on the tailplane. So this will be a funny game from now on. Here, I bored and shaped the cannon blisters, I'll add 4 20mm gun from Aber or thing like that. The Air intake in 3 separate parts, that mean a lot of joint to cope with... Here's the interior withe Eduard Seatbelts, antenna from a F-84, since the Skyknight were working from landbases. The resin plugs in the wing require a lot of sanding too, but it's well detailled. I will include a spar through the fuselage because there is Nothing like a peg or so... So I keep carry on, but at homeopathic dosis. Thank for watching. corsaircorp
Hello dears, I have had a nice modelling evening, working on old faithfull piece of glass, adorned wit my USNI badge I worked on some of my projects, listening to Rammstein and Molly Hatchet and sipping a good old blue Chimay. I finished one of the half fuselage and tested it with the metal painting, no more steps, smooth karman, have a look.. Obviously, the finished one is above, below, it is after lots of sanding and a bit more to do. I also created a sun roof for the lower radar scope, I used the metal from a table candle, that look good too It is easy to bend, pretty fine and... free of charge, recycling matters One last for the road I also worked on my F4U-4, on my would be vietnamese MiG 21 F-13, my F4U-1 and some other kits. See you later. Thank for watching. Corsaircorp
corsaircorp
Hello Dears, again some news of the big belly beast ! How to make a seamless air intake.. I use extra fluid Tamiya, I put a lot of it and press the two parts 'till there is a tiny bit of plastic spouting from the seam, and then sanding with a hand tube of sandpaper. Using silver paint is helpfull for checking the smoothness of a sanded surface. The fuselage will be closed in a few weeks, lots of sanding ahead once again. Have a very nice day. Sincerely. Tailspin Turtle
While you're at it, you should consider deleting those external wiring conduits running aft on the fuselage. They were only on the Raytheon test beds. See http://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-f3ds-of-flying-nightmares-in-korea.html
Killingholme
Looks good. I never knew Czechmaster ever made a Skynight. It looks quite like the Sword kit, but Sword managed to make a real mess of the intakes which made it the one kit I actually ever threw away half-completed! Will Hello Will, I checked it with my plans at hand, this one seem right except for the windshield and acces hatch. There has been a good study in a french magazine, with some photos, can give you the references if necessary. Thank for the kind words. corsaircorp
Hello Dears, No Spit but Willie the whale has improved, pilot seat finished with seatbelts, Oxygen hose are ready to be painted. Starboard air intake is cemented, the trick is that you must push the whole thing forward and then cut and adjust the lip, not easy at all, but it's a short run kit I will cut the syringe needles to make my 20mm guns. Things are going well, will show some photos tomorrow I think. Beside it, I've worked on my F4U-4, mud mover big bad wulf and hawker terror of Normandy. Have a nice day. Sincerely. corsaircorp
Here are pic's Unless you do so, you cannot place the intake accordingly to the détails photos. Next step, I'll put some putty on the external lip, not on the Inside, that must stay open. And then cut and sand the air intake. Details are on Air Magazine n°48 and 49 plus photos found on the net. to be continued Corsaircorp
alancmlaird
See! As a new member, I've been reading post like this, which, on the face of it, I have no real interest in the actual subject. But aside from being a great build so far, for me the tip of using the aluminium from the tea-light (candle) holder is a brilliant idea and is being filed away in my head for later use. I'll try not to claim it as my own! The resourcefulness of BM modellers knows no bounds.

CJP
Nothing like a challenge Corsaircorp but you are beating this one in to submission! - I always like the tubby look of the Skynight - an interesting era for naval aircraft CJP
corsaircorp
Hello CJP, What is stuning in the history, is that the F3D with her big bellied whale appearance was a really effective night fighter ! Lots of B-29 jocks prefered to be escorted by the Marines than by the Air Farce Starfires... About the kit, there's a lot of job on it, so I will not work on her every days... Unless she can be test flied ... Fuselages were bananas !! I straight it up with hot vapor... Not so funny for my fingers.. Then the tranparencies are not right, t' will be fun to fix too... Thanks for the kind words, Have a good modelling time ! Sincerely. CC Edited April 10, 2018 by corsaircorp
corsaircorp
Hello Dears One more Devil in the box... null So I must accomodate 4 mm for having these 2 parts fitted I will get some plastic out from the thickness of the half fuselage... That's real short run, no more choices because the U/C leg need some more lenght... Is anyone of you has a beaver ?? T'will be handy here Look we now have one of our distinguished member in the Emoji panel...nullnullnull Guess who ?? Sincerely. CC
corsaircorp
what where are the emoji gone...null I mean this one Hope that it will stay on CC
corsaircorp
Hello dears, No beaver offered, Okay I'll call on mine Here's EAGA BEAVA I bought that thing in Aldi years ago for a mere 30€ and I always forget that I got one.... And as I did'nt have a real bench, set it in and out is a bit boring !! So back at our whale now... Whale Beaver.... Animal thread now ! And I got this in a matter of nimutes ! And now it's quite right, let's glue the Wheel well ! I will perhaps finish this one in 2018, but I doubt .... Have a good modelling time ! Sincerely. corsaircorp
Hello dears, Still in Korea, it's a way for me to think about my Seafire... Interior is almost done now The 2 Jet intakes are done too, again lots of sanding ! One can see that buttoning the ting up will be funny, and I alread straighten the half fuselages And I also fitted a jet pipe but it will now need an optical mask, otherwise one can see through the aircraft !! The funnies of old short run kits ! I really like that pic of my daughter and me… Really serious peoples is'nt it ??? No gents, No beer, it was breakfast, sorry Fruhstûck !! Have a good modelling time, I'm off for 4 days of evening work ! Sincerely. CC

corsaircorp
Hello Dears, I was not pleased with the exhaust of my Skyknight... It's rightly placed but ... Even with the fuselage closed, one can see through ... So I did some optical mask, here it look better Painted Tyre black on the outside and glued in place, I will look for some metal tubing, 1,5mm for the blast tubes of the guns And then ???? Some work on the emergency exit, at best guess since I did'nt found any photo... And Then ??? Buttoning up the beast, may be finishing her this year ??? My Korean serie include only one Seafire 47, I need an U.S one at least... I also worked on the fuel tanks and U.C Thank for watching Dears , Take care and Happy modelling to all Sincerely.
