JeffreyK
Wow, that's unexpected, great to see that Tamiya has re-discovered 1:48 aircraft! A pity that it's my least favourite Japanese aircraft, so I won't buy this one, but I'm sure it will find many other fans. Jeffrey

VMA131Marine
This seems to be a stealth release. I don't recall Tamiya having a 1/48th Tony in their catalogue before. http://hlj.com/product/TAM61115

Yes, but not that simplified. The pics Homebee linked to show a whole lot of detail, like bolts on the sides, bearer attachment, etc. that aren't there in that perfectly smooth plastic lego brick Tamiya included. Granted, it is really only an issue in the clear fuselage version. The kit engine was pretty clearly designed to be little more than a spacer to hold the top of the engine up to the proper level and provide an impression of depth when the top cowl piece was left off, which was the only way one would see any of the engine at all in the all-gray-plastic version of the kit. It looks as though the designer was told to do one thing, then after the basic design was finalized someone in Tamiya decided to be fancy and offer the two fuselage halves in clear plastic with no other changes. A bit disappointing IMHO, Tamiya did the "Visible Aircraft" theme very well with their Me262. This time around the idea seems like a gimmicky afterthought. Jeepboy
I do like to see a pilot included. We have the option to leave him out but for "inflight" it is such a useful addition.
