There are some aeroplanes where I can see any deviation from scale and some of the available kits almost hurt me to look at them - other types where I am happy with something that a real type expert wouldn't like at all. For instance, I still quite like the Fujimi Bf.110 even though I know there are more accurate kits out there, and feel very happy knowing that I can pick them up for next to nothing compared to an Eduard one. But I couldn't do that with a Spitfire. Yep..a few years ago I was chatting with a friend at a model show. I mentioned how nice the Tamiya 1/72 Spits were, but he said they had wing shape issues that made them look horribly wrong. But then I started talking about how the Academy B-24 kits were completely ruined by the ridiculously undersized and misshapen engine cowls, and he just shrugged..saying he really didn't know much about B-24s so they looked fine to him. We both had a good chuckle about it, concluding that everybody has their "sacred cows." SN Edited November 20, 2016 by Steve N
Michael51
Steve, Your point is very well made. In most cases, there seems to be a subtle difference between how a kit 'looks' and 'accuracy'. It is more important to some than others. Personally, I let others worry about it. I respect those who compare the kit to plans although I do wonder about those plans. How accurate are they? Whose plans are they? Do they have official provenance or have they been run up against a secondary and potentially inaccurate source? It is up to the modeller whether precision is paramount. Other sites do go on about it a bit 'though. I wonder if accuracy arguments rage because the stakes are so small. The most realistic Lancaster was the first Airfix issue, but then I was twelve and imagination overrode accuracy. Michael

I'm mostly in the "looks like a [insert subject name here] to me" type of person. I find interior details in 1/72nd scale to be rather overrated too. For a B-17, for example, I think Hasegawa's 1/72 kits are pretty good and their lack of extensive interior bits-and-bobs is not a problem to me. modelglue
While we're on the subject of bringing them home within this thread, can someone point me to an online retailer which will send it to me? I looked at eBay and found one, but I feel as though there are better deals had. All my regular haunts are show no items.

dancho
Accuracy is accuracy. I didn't think that the Hasegawa 1/72 Bf-109E was wrong until I studied it. Then I saw the the vertical fin was "shrunken" in some way, and just about 20% too small. Now I can't "un-see" it. I used to think the Hasegawa 1/72 Spitfire Mk. 1 was just fine, until I compared it to the Airfix version and it was, well, wrong. Now I can't "un-see" it. I used to think the Revell 1/72 P-51D Mustang was accurate but then I got into treatment, got off the drugs and I've been clean and sober for a good long while now.

I reckon I put the order half through and had to walk away. WM sent me an email begging me to come back with a 5% discount. I beat the best price I could find by $10 CAD!!! ...but then I went to Eduard and spent $110.
