Procopius
So my poor little guy is doing a Travis Bickle impression today: Mrs. P took him and her mother to the Botanic Gardens, the worst place in the world, which I have hated since I was a child and I was forced to go there five hundred times. Now, it's just possible, it just might be the case that a place so dull that it's designed for people whose digestive systems produce a single dried pellet, like an owl, once a fortnight might not in fact be a great place for a hyperactive one-year-old whose mom seems to not mind too goddamn much if he gets out of line of sight, but if you really want to do something stultifyingly boring, you will inflict it on your children and pretend it's good for them. My mom did it to me, and Mrs P continues the cycle of don't-call-it-abuse. So here we are. Poor Winnie biffed it into a decorative fountain shaped like a flower and gashed the side of his head, and we spent the better part of our evening at the doctor's. I would like to say this means no more trips to the goddamn gardens, but sadly, I doubt it.
Pete in Lincs
Kids and inanimate objects, who'd have guessed, eh? Well if they went there, then you must have been home alone and modelling? I, meanwhile, spent half of yesterday chopping wood, ready for the British winter. We then went to the hospital (No, not because I'd chopped off my leg by accident) to meet our newly born Granddaughter, Phoebe Lydia. Who is all sorts of gorgeousness. Ahhh.
CedB
Poor Winnie - have you taught him to say "You lookin' at me?"? It sounds as though you and Mrs P are like Mrs B and I - one watching every move and keeping them close and the other letting them have a run around 'somewhere safe' and visiting the ER later. Awkward. Thanks for the penny arcade strip BTW - funny

Massive congratulations! mr p I get you on the hyper little child I a boring setting, my boy is all kind of nuts and bounces of anything he can find as he is bored to tears... Unfortunately there are no interesting places for kids in Malvern other that two parks which will always end in tears.... It's all character building isn't it? Bet he will think twice before going near any ornamental flower shaped fountains in the future. my girl is the opposite, she appears to be half ninja half cat.... She will be just as nuts as the but always manages to come out ok... Different between men's and women I suppose! Rob
TonyTiger66
Can't tick the 'like' box on that one. What a shiner he has! Worthy of a Beano comic character. I had (and have) bruises like that all the time, but my blood doesn't clot, so being a bit of an expert in bruises and bleeding (got to know about something), that would have really, really hurt. ! Poor little chap. Looking very stoic and brave about it . @Pete in Lincs Congratulations to your family all round, someone new for the Christmas prezzy lists . I remember being dragged around stately homes and other National Trust "places of interest" by my parents and grandparents as a youngster. Now I appreciate these venues have their place. However, as a hyperactive, curious and annoyingly inquisitive under-ten year old who enjoyed running around, touching stuff, and taking things apart, stuffy boring places stocked with lots of old, expensive curios do not mix. Add the mantra "now Thomas I've told you before, don't get touching anything!"....well it did not end well.
AlexN
Neat work on the filler - which reminds me to check the whereabouts of the catalyst tube for for my large tub of cellulose-based car body filler with added (by the manufacturer) styrene. Bondo might be a better solution, but is not, as far as I know, available as such in this country. Sorry to hear about the Grievous Wound to poor Winston - he'll get over it soon enough. He just can't seal the deal, I'm afraid -- he'll walk up to other kids, especially little girls, but as soon as it looks like they might interact, he takes off like he's being chased by a ravenous leopard. 15 hours ago, TonyTiger66 said: Poor little chap. He was less so when the doctor examined him a few minutes after the photo -- he broke free of the combined grips of both of his parents to land a mighty bite, causing the MD to gasp "my, he's strong," through gritted teeth. 12 hours ago, Tomoshenko said: I remember being dragged around stately homes and other National Trust "places of interest" by my parents and grandparents as a youngster. Add the mantra "now Thomas I've told you before, don't get touching anything!"....well it did not end well. Exactly! We took him to Ryerson Woods today, which in fact does have a "stately home" (their words, it's a wealthy steel magnate's former vacation cottage), but it also had a tractor, which he got to sit on. I'm not sure he was allowed to sit on it, but sit on it he did. He seems to be doing much better (despite refusing to take a nap this afternoon) and sported a pair of brand-new sharkmouth slippers once we got home: 20161106_163932 by Edward IX, on Flickr Work continues with the kit, shown here with a Revell Tornado for scale: 20161106_211222 by Edward IX, on Flickr I've added the coaming over the instrument panel, as well as the refueling probe, which can't easily be added later, so it'll need to be masked -- not thrilled about that. I also started putting together the wings and the tailfin -- the wings have the option for dropped or up flaps, and the rudder on the fin is a separate part. Like tits on a bull, these are perhaps nice features for some, but of no use to me. 20161106_210938 by Edward IX, on Flickr The wings can be installed fixed either fully swept or fully unswept -- no inbetween: 20161106_211059 by Edward IX, on Flickr The fit isn't super tight on this, but hopefully adding the bottom of the wing glove will change this. (Test) Fit of the tailfin is pretty good, but not perfect: 20161106_211027 by Edward IX, on Flickr It's also a little wider than the start of the fin here. More sanding and suchlike in my future! 20161106_211032 by Edward IX, on Flickr
modelglue
Just look at all those rivets! Will look mighty fine next to the beautiful Tornado. Fun Fact: when the Tornado was released by Monogram in 1/72 (gulf war markings) I refused to believe it was an actual aircraft! Mind you, I was 12 and thought the only things the British used were Phantoms. Quote He seems to be doing much better (despite refusing to take a nap this afternoon) and sported a pair of brand-new sharkmouth slippers once we got home: In strange, terrible symmetry, mine refused to nap as well. Mind you, I was 12 and thought the only things the British used were Phantoms. I think I had one of those as a boy, though it may have been before the Gulf War, as mine was painted wraparound using craft paints purloined from my mother. Oh, how we all laughed when she found I'd painted it in my bed. I had no idea the RAF used Phantoms until 1992, when my dad brought home a book by IIRC Tony Holmes for me on them (it was withheld from me for several days on account of poor behaviour), and the essential rightness of it struck me at once.

TonyTiger66
Four hours into US Election Day in this part of the world . Sorry to hear you both are under the weather. Rest is definitely called for. The aircraft really has a lot of presence. I would be interested to see how it looks compared to an F-111. I suspect still substantially larger? The cockpit looks very sharp now through the quite clear canopy. Best wishes for feeling better soon, TonyT

Almost exactly the same size as an F-111 -- slightly smaller -- but showing the incredible efficiency of aircraft design under the New Socialist Man, it carries a payload slightly smaller than that of a Tornado. 1 minute ago, TonyTiger66 said: Four hours into US Election Day in this part of the world .
