Long haired david
I am making this kit but can't find any information regarding seat belt layout or colour. Does anyone have any ideas please?
Bonhoff
Just found a B&W picture on google (which I won't be able to link to due to copyright issues) but it is most definitely in period showing a Mini racing in 1965, with steel wheels, numbers stuck straight to the doors, tape over the headlamps and standard lap strap and diagonal seat belts. TBH I think it would be down to the driver's personal preferences at the time rather than mandated by the motorsport authorities, so unless you're doing a specific car it's probably down to your own choice. Good Luck. IanJ
Bonhoff
Oh, and if you're only having the one seat those "rails" behind the green crossmember weren't there - Certainly not on any of my Minis anyway.
Long haired david
Thanks. I remember watching the two of them, John Rhodes and John Love at Crystal Palace when I was a lad. best racingI have ever seen, except when Jimmy and Graham got behind the wheel of Lotus Cortinas!

There doesn't seem to be anything there to hold it in place so would it just dropdown the side of the seat as the early ones in my Mk1 Escort did? arni
Here is a mk1 twini that I started about 10 years ago.. Top.
Bonhoff
Just a standard belt, no inertia reels fitted back then. When parked up it'd just drop down the side of the seat.
Bonhoff
Static seat belt like this... http://www.dsnclassics.co.uk/mini-parts-shop/mini-interior-electrical/seatbelts/seat-belt-static-front-3-point/ Would have been bolted to the two mountings on the B pillar then the flexible locky claspy bit (proper name escapes me at the moment) to the mounting on the side of the exhaust tunnel. Think my first Mini, a '71 Clubman, had a unit that accommodated both belt clasps bolted to the tunnel. Referring to the Haynes guide to Mini restoration, although it lists the various colours and trim options originally available, doesn't specify seatbelt colours. Long haired david
Not sure. I am talking Cooper Car Company, Crystal Palace here c 1961/62. My scout leader had a hotted up Ford Escort - Not the Mk 1 type but the earlierfifties version, like this: His has uprated suspension, a supercharger and four point static seat belts. Wouldn't the Cooper Car Company use something like that in the early days rather than a three point diagonal one?
Bonhoff
Try this then..... https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20145/lot/151/ Ex Cooper Car Co Mini. Bit later than 61/62 though. Britax 4 point belts evident on this one as well as the somewhat arbitary roll cage of the day. Our Akela had the Popular version of that Escort, complete with vacuum operated wipers that slowed down as the car went faster.
Long haired david
Oh, do I remember those wipers! That seems more like I remember. Maybe I need to swap the seat for the standard one and build the sides up. Thanks for your help and your interest. Where were you when Akela had that car? I was in the 31st Streatham Air Scouts.
Bonhoff
I'm assuming the bucket seat in the racer boxing is the same one as in the LBL6D Monte boxing so probably not strictly correct. Group based in Nottingham.
