Tiger331
Hi Folks, Just received the Italeri 1:48 scale Cessna 172 Skyhawk and had assumed it was a re-boxing of the PM Models T.41 kit. On closer inspection this appears not to be the case but neither do I believe it is a newly tooled kit (though I may be wrong). It just does not have the 'feel' of a new kit and the mix of raised rivets and heavily engraved panel lines does not help either. So, does anyone know the proprietary of this kit ? Thanks Mark

Tiger331
If the Scalemates site is to believed that have all of the more recent kits (Minicraft/PM Model) originating from the Esci mould. If this is the case, the 'new' Italeri kit is NOT from this stable. All of those kits feature separate engine and engine fairing. The recent Italeri boxing does not have this and the whole sprue layout is different to the other kits.
LanceB
I find it more likely Scalemates is wrong about the Minicraft kit's origins. A quick web search confirms that the Italeri kit's sprues match those of the Esci kit, whereas Minicraft's sprues are very different. I even found an article about kit bashing Esci with Minicraft for an apparently "better" Skyhawk, and they were very definitely different kits. According to Scalemates, most 1/48 Skyhawks are of Esci origin, but the Minicraft sprues are different as LanceB says. Prompting me to think that Minicraft kit might be unique to them and the Italeri just another Esci re-pop. Interesting. BillyD
