Create a canopy cover

Hi guys,

I am working on a Tucano in 1:48 scale as I discovered that the canopy has been damaged. Hence, in order to cover it I was thinking to reproduce a closed canopy covered. I see modern airplanes during long parking are used to be protected by red covers similar to those used as anti FOD.

any idea on how to reproduce it?

If its some kind of fabric you could try reproducing it with covering it in paper tissue  soaked in white glue or some hard drying paint/lacquer (ideally I would use clear gloss)

simply hold the piece  onto the canopy and then "paint" it with the glue/paint

I did one for an Airfix Lightning that had a dodgy canopy. same basic technique as described above but I covered the kit parts with clingfilm first so that I could take the tissue paper off to trim it to size after it had hardened. I'll try to find the WIP and put the link here as the pictures tell the whole story.

try foil from butter spread. It generally has a grain in it which can be smoothed out to your scale liking

I guess mine didn't look too much like a tied down canvas cover then!
