Another Chieftain, Takom Mk11 this time ...

Hello gents,

the last days, a little bit of chipping, more like paint wear and I applied filters and pin washes ... sorry for the bad quality of the photos, my camera is a little bit fussy about light colours, as it doesn't deal very well with overexposure.

Anyway, I tried to make my best ... cheers E

Superb build ! I love how the came out . I have a Berlin MK10 to build with a ton of etch ( I do like to punish myself  ) glad these Takom Chiefies seem to go together nicely . A masterful job sir !

Thank you all for your kind comments B)

Today was a very windy and rainy day so no run session, no walk with the family ... full modelling  I airbrushed a coat of clear coat, I use aqua gloss, easier to use than Klear/Future and nice result and then I had to wait 24h until it's fully cured before decals ... :(

... but wait ? No, I couldn't wait so I started a new kit ... Trumpeter Challenger 2 !!

The kit is not perfect but is easy to mount and has some nice features. For the moment, I mounted part of the lower hull and the drivetrain, will probably do some minor adjustments (read rivet counting and scratchbuilding ) on the hull and turret and will start a new WIP off course !!

Chieftain coming together nicely, can't wait to see what you do with the CR2

Hello Roger,

I think it will be a Challenger 2 in training in Europe, with metal skirts and full green suit ... or two-tone camo. I have another project with a sand & green camo Challenger 2 also, based on the Tamiya kit for 2017 (I have so much projects ... ).

Hi Etienne

Really nice work and paint job on the Chieftain.

Is this the tank that you are modelling??  I believe that this is a Warminster machine from the Land Warfare unit

I'm not sure what the etiquette is on on including pics in someone else's blog, but I had a go and here's my attempt.  Forgive me if this is impertinent. I thought it was a great kit to build with my only grouse being very thick sprue attachments

Hello Rob,

no problem with including pics of your Chieftain, it's very nice and has been an inspiration for me since I decided to build a Warminster tank B) ... I have to admit that I spend much time reading carefully your WIP on another forum so you're welcome !!

To answer your question : yes, this picture was my first idea ... but when I saw your attempt (and success), I realized that you set a highly demanding standard ;)

I then decided not to make exactly the same tank, but another from the same squadron ... maybe callsign 31 or 32, still looking for the best decals to apply.

Cheers, E

Hi Etienne,

Drove home yesterday from Calais Coquelles to Deux Sevres and I could see that you had a lot of rain, many fields flooded.

The Chieftain is coming along very nicely. I like the paint job.

Hello,

this week end was dedicated to decals, detail painting and fix problems / mistakes

So I added fire extinguishers use instructions, paddlocks to the stowage boxes and when I tried to install the 5-gallons oil cans, everything went wrong and the straps (made of .14mm plasticard) broke :( ... as a matter of fact, the adjustment was to tight and with paint and varnish, no more room to slide the cans.

I decided to try another solution, with strips of masking tape ... seems to work well.

I tried a wash on the thermal sleeve, no completely satisfied with the result but the photo's even worse <_<

Thanks to all for your likes and comments ;)

Yes, FrancisGL, it's a Zvezda BMP-2 but the hull had an severe crash so I use it as a test model ... this time I practiced the camo scheme (that's why you can see the sand / green camo of the Chieftain) and some filters & washes. After that, direct to the paint stripper and another project ^_^

Cheers, E

Hello,

some progress yesterday ... one last filter, worked great on the hull and barrel but not so satisfied on the turret, then another chipping sessions, streaking (grime, fuel, grease, etc.) and dry mud.

Next step will be a flat coat to seal and protect all this hard work ... then the Chieftain will be ready for the pigments and for better pics if I find the way to shoot photos of good quality.
