Fired, to be sure, but at what, by who and when? Oh, sorry, I misunderstood, Steve! It's late here and I'm dumb. It's a .303 casing from a friend's Lee-Enfield. I do not own any guns, but I do have a current license to do so should I wish (it cost the princely sum of $5, and without it I can't legally discharge a loaned or rented firearm), and have fired (all on one afternoon 15 years ago): BAR H&K MP5 M3 "Grease Gun" Uzi Kar98k M1911A1 Browning HP35 Colt Python Magnum Glock 17 Ruger 22 The M3 was very easy to fire, even on full automatic. Modelling is an expensive enough hobby for me, though. And it'd take a lot more work for Mrs. P to beat me to death with a 1/72 Valiant than for her to gun me down.
stevehnz
So, maybe I'm misconstruing this info but you used the .303 case as a source for brass tube or as a gouge? maybe its me being thick now. Steve.

Steve. I used it as a spacer while the glue was drying -- I purchased conventional brass tubing for the intakes. Though wouldn't it be hard-as-nails to go and pop off a few rounds every time I built a jet?

Giorgio N
Only noticed this thread now and I'm glad I did ! You're doing a great job on what (as others have said before) is one of the most challenging A-Model kits around. It's also one of a very fascinating aircraft, will keep watching with interest !

Possibly the most American post our esteemed colleague has ever written! In the Uk, opportunities to fire said weapons are virtually non-existent. But opportunies to handle them can be had - vis the following from a Natioanl Museums of Scotland event a few years ago: 11165318_10153856803734676_6010379859664288057_n by jongwinnett, on Flickr 06/24 minor also had a go: 11262949_10153858370439676_314638420_n by jongwinnett, on Flickr More worryingly, I discovered at the same event that Willys Jeeps are not suited for English gentlemen of mature girth... 11218625_10153856804319676_6134540991147445503_n by jongwinnett, on Flickr No such problems beset minor, who found an altogether more suitable conveyance... 11168874_10153856805009676_6917035845938312866_n by jongwinnett, on Flickr Apologies for thread drift, carry on sir. I don't think it's Amodel so much as me, you know. I always make at least one howling clanger per kit, just like whenever I travel I always forget one thing (US type stick deoderant when I visited the UK -- sorry if I smelled, Ced and Jon! Aerosols confuse me). The key is to plan so that whatever happens is minor. I'm kind of relieved to have it out of the way (hopefully). Say...by the way...are you using the USSR MiG-29 9-13 markings from the Linden Hill sheet? Asking for a friend. 32 minutes ago, Giorgio N said: Only noticed this thread now and I'm glad I did ! Thanks, Giorgio! I honestly don't think so far that it's that challenging of a kit. The BREWER versions, whose clear parts may not fit as well seem like they might be a trial, but this doesn't seem any worse than a lot of other limited run stuff I've done, and I'm not even a very good modeller! I think this is well within the capabilities of most modellers so far. The big challenge will be the NMF in the painting stage. 35 minutes ago, Ascoteer said: Points out that she's pretty damned good with firearms... Okay, but as an RSO, all I see are weapons pointed any which way without due care for whatever or whomever is downrange. Sorry, it's a deeply instilled reaction and I don't think I'm going to be conditioning myself out of it anytime soon.
06/24
I can point things in vaguely the correct direction when required - from recent holiday: 14364831_10155276307629676_3314674028909840809_n by jongwinnett, on Flickr Now I appreciate that Debs and others will be capable of much better groupings, but i did have a small moment of pride when I outshot both the instructor and the two loudmouthed army cadet guys on the same range. Beginners luck obviously...

Just sayin' So too,it transpires,is Mrs Miggers. Miggers Minor and I announced that we were off to the clay shooting grounds a few miles away for a swift 50 bird bit of practice. Mrs M anounces that a. She'll come too because b.She's never had a go of a shotgun before( < remember this bit). Off she goes upstairs to the boudoir to get ready whilst we load guns, wellies, cartridges, cartridge bags, etc. into the motor. She re-appears fully tweeded up(and looking very fetching too I might add),we climb aboard the motor and off we jolly well go. We're bowling around the stands, banging away at the clays and letting Mrs M have a go at a few with Miggers Minor's over and under 12 bore. She shot at 15 birds and broke 11 of 'em,not bad for "Never had a go of a shotgun before".Hmmmmm,I smell a rat there. I know her Uncle has a few shotguns and has shot for years..........
