Tim Moff
Over on the STGB, I have build a Tonka in 1/72 covering the 70th anniversary of the raid... Not going to meet the end day today as I had to source some stencils....but will get it finished over Xmas - so that would be the Tornado covered in my quest to get as many types flown by 617 Sqn modelled...Need to start looking at a F-35B!!
NealParkes
That’s a nice looking Tornado Tim, I look forwards to the final reveal. Regarding the F-35B you can get decals from xtradecal which have 617 Sqn markings on them. Then you have plenty of choice for the kit between the Hasegawa, Academy and Italeri kits. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
John Masters
Nice looking project. There must be a few of us working on specific squadrons.
Tim Moff
Really need to get the Tonka out and finish off... Meanwhile, using the Big and British build to model a lil Vulcan!
TonyOD
I’m late to this party, you’ve been doing some fine work to honour the Dambusters! I’ve developed a similar fascination with no. 9 Squadron of late…

Tim Moff
Some more decals on not sure whether to spray white over the glass area and paint blank or to just touch up the white areas ? got the Lancs out - I started them 5 years back, they’ve been tucked away so thought I’d best just get them done … will be little or no weathering, just want them done. Will look to do the 3rd model wheels down and into my cabinet as room on the ceiling is sparse now !

Tim Moff
Vulcan done Need to get the 2 Lancs off the bench and then look at getting the later Airfix tool started, wheels down to put it in my cabinet along with the Vulcan, maybe squeeze in a 1/72 Canberra and even a F-35B Lightning II - I’m reading the Hasegawa option is good, with some aftermarket decals. It seems there are no actual Sqn markings on the F-35B’s at the moment, apparently they operate as a pool. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-01576-f-35-lightning-ii-b-version--1122322 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/KW172212

Tim Moff
Have decided to build the 3rd 617 Sqn new tool Lanc, wheels down for my cabinet… Not posted for a bit, v busy with work, not many of the group builds have grabbed my attention or fit my current stash that I need to start converting to models as I get older ! Some of the parts are a bit warped so there’s some challenges on the main fuse etc … One of the spar ends broke but I think I’ve managed to effect a repair Decided to do the mine as a red oxide primer - used a WW1 red wood paint May add a drop of red to make it slightly ‘redder’ Who said pegs are for washing lines 🤣 starting to look like a Lanc - right battle with Seams due to the 2 halves being slightly warped - leaving a massive step to deal with…still a ghost seam or 2, I may try 1 more Surfacer 500 pass and sand then just accept it … Edited August 12, 2023 by Tim Moff
Tim Moff
Moved on a bit... The way the man gear fits I decided I needed to paint the lower wings first - combi of blacks Paint uppers dark green then used a masking set... on with the dark earth masked up various blacks AJ-A was pivotal in the raid but ended up being shot down on the way home, sadly with the loss of all then crew... Lots of ref pics show the 617 Lancs with the remover upper turret mount area with some sort of paint covering - I am going for a logical approach with red oxide primer, similar to reports and the captured Upkeep Mine... Masked off using the kit piece: Need to get the decals on then seal in - move onto some weathering...I have post shaded a bit as the Lancs were well thrashed from new before the raid The cable for arming the mine caused some 'scratching' of paint after of the cockpit on the Starboard side... Exhaust grey around exhausts
Tim Moff
Some info on ED887 More done Decided to simulate the removal of the turret mount and put some simulated 'red oxide' paint in that area. Started on the decals... Edited November 26, 2023 by Tim Moff
Tim Moff
So got there... Not my best work but a nice addition - need to get it in the cabinet and then finish off the Canberra and Tonka to go in there with the Lanc and the 1/144 Vulcan...
europapete
What a great thread 😀 I have the 1/32 Border Lanc with the Iconicair conversion and One Man Army stensil and Markings masks to do. Also a piece of Barlow's AJ-E recovered by Ron Cole. So that will be the subject. Regards, Pete in RI
Tim Moff
Got em in the cabinet and started on the F-35B Lightning... basic Airfix starter kit in 1/72 - will do the job... Recent Pics of ZM153 show it to be the later paint job, RAM tape all similar in colour so kept the 2nd grey to basic areas... No slime light decals so used RAF Sky to paint on...
