I think you made the right choice to mask and paint the star as I think the blue would have shown through many decals. Not sure how opaque Jet decals are. Like you I'm not sure about the gold either, I think it should be a dark yellow colour but it doesn't detract from the overall finish. Nice to see this one finished!
