As I have been in the mood for building military kits lately, after building the Leopard tank and transporter, I thought it only fair to build something British. I settled for the Challenger as I have always liked watching it in action (on TV) and it seemd to be ahead of its time and stylish and will stand alongside the Leopard nicely. As before I am also using some photoetch but my patience with all of the tiny fiddly bits are testing me (I'm also fed up with super gluing my fingers together and to my head and tea cup). The actual kit is quite detailed really, so PE may not have really been needed. The main parts I wanted were for the rear engine vent grill but I have found some of the extra PE detailing useful in some areas (lights, barrel, etc) so it may have been worth it after all. I hope you enjoy following this build and appreciate all comments, tips, etc. Here goes: The Box Suspension and wheels assembled. Looks like an upside down woodlice......... First coat of the camo to the base, as well as the rear fuel barrels, etc. PE grilles fitted and the front lights sections. Front light PE parts fitted. I've had a look at your build and was amazed at some of the detailing that you did. Alas, this one will probably be done almost out of the box as my knowledge on tanks is very limited. The netting and storage pods are not fitted as well as some of the other minor details. I didn't manage to super glue my fingers together today, though my finger got stuck in my ear for a while until I could pull it loose (minus some skin). Oh well, no pain, no gain............. Still some tidying up to do as you can see but it's taking shape. Side skirts fitted. Sorry guys, I just couldn't replace all of those handles. An excellent kit that goes together well, I've built a couple of them, it really benefits from some aftermarket bits (Accurate Armour for instance), I'm fancying doing another, maybe with some cam netting and a couple of lads brewing up. Thanks Phil. It is definately worth the extra's but the cost soon mounts up after a while. It is becoming a habit that I spend more on extras now. Alas, my knowledge of tanks is very limited so at the moment I am almost going with the kit as it is. I'm glad that you get two figures with this kit though. Good though innit. Sure is, Phil. I work to a tight budget but, if you can afford it, there is so much stuff out there to improve the kits. I don't know about you, but it's the build and challenges that go with it that I enjoy most. Once the kit is done it just sits in a display case for ever more. I've been travelling a lot of miles to the hospital and back but my sister is home now (phew!) and now my wife is starting to sleep through the night again, so things are certainly improving. Thought it was my eyes but it was the lighting and/or camera. I have attempted, for the first time, to create my own camo netting and tarpaulin sheets using art putty. Pleasantly pleased with my first attempt at these, though I think I still need a lot more practice yet. Everything is now complete and the end pictures will soon be posted in the RFI section. Thanks to everyone for being patient while I have built this and I hope to see you in my next project. I was going to have a break but, alas, it's my birthday soon and what else would I want other than another kit to build? Well, I have the Revell Pirate ship 1:72 on its way along with the Takom 1/35 German Heavy Tank SdKfz 182 King Tiger w/ Zimmerit & Interior. With the pirate ship I may look at adding some kind of lighting and with the Tiger I may be looking at creating some kind of cut-away. Figures painted and the tarp created. The Camo net made with medical gauze. The camo colours are not quite visible from this photo. Finished and RFI.............. Last month was just a nightmare. One good thing was that I became a lot fitter going backwards and forwards to the hospitals and taking care of all the housework.
